It helps if you know or have an idea of the meaning of the words in them. Might change what you expect from some of them though.
I haven't clicked on the link, but why would you replace letters with another alphabet?

Eight years have passed since the website "Magic of Latin Squares" appeared - latkvadrat.narod.ru/. During this time, many people again learned about the long-forgotten form of talismanic magic. Some even, despite the warning, decided to use it. Although this is the choice that everyone makes for himself.
Why did this site appear. The only reason is a combination of circumstances, which it was reasonable to keep silent about at the beginning. It has now been nine years since I first learned of Latin Square Magic. This means that a new round in life has already begun, otherwise the past is already somewhere around the bend of fate. This whole story began in the summer of 2006 with a book lying in a pile of waste paper near the garbage containers. As usual, it is customary to find ancient texts on magic in private collections of old manuscripts or in vast and therefore completely unexplored library funds, but whoever is lucky. I was less lucky, and what to hide at that moment, thoughts about luck simply did not come to mind. Rather, a surprise, because in a pile of books and magazines, mostly books of the 60-80s of the XX century, there was a classic samizdat of the Soviet era. A reprint of a book published before the revolution - Papus "Practical Magic". Homemade binding, skewed pages and very average copy quality. Such clandestine literature was popular among the Soviet intelligentsia during the "era of stagnation." In my library there was already this book by Papus, normally published in the late nineties. He becomes the owner of the second copy, and there was no point in poor quality. And this “rarity” would have remained in the same place where it was found, if not for one thing. On the margins of some pages there were drawings and inscriptions (notes) made by hand and had nothing to do with Papus. Judging by the spelling, the owner of the book made them before the revolution, and then the book, by unknown means, got to the “samizdat” enthusiasts who copied everything together.
So actually I got acquainted with Latin Squares. Unfortunately, the description was not complete, and the emphasis was specific, but there is nothing to say about the quality of the copy. Therefore, it was not possible to disassemble everything. But the main thing was clear. Except for one thing - who and when created these talismans. Judging by the notes, a ready-made and tested system was presented. She superimposed on the content of Papus's book in such a way as to demonstrate her superiority.
Considering that this is a publication of the early twentieth century (the “self-publishers” did not paste the pages with the release date of the book and the table of contents), then the Magic of Latin Squares is at least a hundred years old.
By and large, it must be admitted that the system for making talismans was simple “like three kopecks” and of particular interest, and did not inspire confidence either. And the thought of telling about it to someone else did not even come to mind. As for the book, it would have remained gathering dust in my library, if not for what happened next.
Having quarreled for the last time with my wife, we decided to leave. By the way, everything has been going on for a long time, so Papus has nothing to do with it. In the morning, having collected my things and loaded them into the trunk with my books in the back seat of my sister's Lada, already a former common-law wife, I went home. Behind the wheel of course mistress of the car. Early morning, free road, we drive fast - there is a red traffic light at the crossroads. If we approach the current situation more than simplistic, then this type of magic was a compromise option for the mystical-minded intellectual elite. She suited the Slavophiles by the fact that this was a Russian invention, and Westerners, albeit formally, but by continuity with talismans from European magic.

It became the prototype of the Russian-Latin Magic Squares. The general scheme of construction is taken from it. This is correct, because in the notes both squares (SATOR and MAGUS) were drawn together. Hence the square is only five by five and the placement of the letters. The one who drew SATOR in the form of a square showed the Russian warlocks the letters, and they figured out how to put words out of them.

Латинские Квадраты сами по себе не являются планетарными по своему характеру, но их действие согласно влиянию планет как впрочем, и все происходящее в подлунном мире. Now we divide this number by 12 and calculate the duration of the daily planetary hour for this day. It is equal to an average of 68 minutes. Night hours are calculated in the same way (if necessary).
To do this, a pencil (pen, felt-tip pen, etc.) and a blank sheet of paper are enough. This is the case if the Square is made to be carried with you.
Ink, pen and paper are the three essential tools for making a square. There are different options for how to write with what and on what. But the three listed are sufficient for most cases. These are not consecrated writing instruments. In specially consecrated instruments, names of forces, incense, etc. there is no particular need for the reasons already stated above.
