I am new to the occult, and I wonder how the process of developing new abilities through spirits, for instance, may happen. Like, if you evocate some spirit that teaches art, will your skills take a leap to a whole other level? A spirit will teach you how to play an instrument and that's about it? Some grimoires cite these spirits with such "teaching" capacities but they don't delce into this process quite much. If you're well versed in these matters I would really aprecciate your take.

One possibility is you might have the ability internally or 'unconsciously' and the 'sympathetic stimulation' of it by magic and symbolism ( being the language of the unconscious ) might 'release' it to consciousness .

I found better results from practices other than asking a spirit to give you an instant undeveloped ability - that is a bit of a pipe dream . But continual practices over time ( eg things like Qabbalistic cross, LBR LIber Resh , 'offerings' rituals, dawn meditation , etc ) give benefit and change in a relatively short period but over long periods build up 'momentum' to effect lasting significant change .

Sometimes development seems to happen in leaps ..... maybe 'all of a sudden ' x results are apparent ... but then one realizes .... ' Well, I have been doing x ritual for several years now .' That is , some results seem to be 'natural' and are apparent relativley soon , but some seem to be 'build up' and then get released all at once , creating a 'jump forward ' .
