Anybody know or use a decent AI book translator? I have a few books that I would like to post but I can't find a decent one that can do the job properly. Any links would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I did a translation from French to English a couple years back and just used Google translate, going chapter by chapter. Google translate is a neural machine translation, so it's real machine learning AI, not just an LLM. It was pretty solid, and did save a TON of time. I tried to manually translate the same book years ago and gave up after a few chapters just from the amount of time it took.

There were a number of places where OCR and/or the original meaning were not fully captured and I had to go back and insert true meaning. That's sort of the work of a real translator anyway. It was also a novella and not a technical manual (spell books are technical manuals of a sort, right?)

Using LLMs (or sites that are just frontends for a custom GPT) can be hit or miss depending on the target language.

I like deepl.com, the free option allows you to machine-translate about 3-5 pages pages in one go last time I checked; I think the paid plan lets you translate entire uploaded documents.

The last time I did a translation of work with a language I do not know fully was Daemon Barzai. After looking through the translation post process, I honestly could have done a bit better if I took the time. However, it was relatively easy to clean up.

As long as we proof read and clean up a bit on interpretation, I have no issue with using translators. AI or any program utilized for linguistics will never be able to translate language fluidly.

Gemini best free that can. Just tell it "translate this entire text into German: Chapter 1...". I recommend to let it do it chapter by chapter not the entire text at once.
