First, we must filter out stage set pieces used by entertainment involving prestidigitation. They have no real purpose other than help the atmosphere of showmanship along. In some cases, using actual anointed Holy Relics or consecrated Artifact Adornments can be disrespectful unless actually used for its intended purpose.

There are more than a half-dozen such items in places once considered sacred ground.

In Wiccan rituals, the alter is "Generally" set to:

◈ focus and give praise to specific deities,​

◈ to help in the cleansing prior to a request from a deity,​

◈ to honor those in the service of a deity,​

◈. to consecrate an object or place in the name of a deity (sometimes like a Temple, or a ship [for instance)]​

Most general or all-purpose alters, not dedicated to a specific deity, are temporary and only anointed otherwise. These are general settings to help clear the mind of help in the offering at the opening of the ritual. Many marriages and funeral rites are done in such a manner. One of the best examples if the Catholic Church. Candles are used to light the way for the spirits to a tabernacle, In almost every altar, a small relic of something significant. There is generally a statue of some great entity (like the virgin Mary or the Archangel Michael). And then there are a series of art pieces that are dedicated to the trek to Mount Calvary and the place of crucifixion. Catholics are in a Religion that is just full of rituals from a millennium before Christ, and also practice alchemy.

There are many statues of the many different deities. But theoretically, you can pick up a "rock" bless it. I once saw the High Priest of a Coven then, take the "rock" to the Cemetary and place the "rock" near an ancestor. She left them there overnight, not before a short prayer asking her ancestor to consecrate the two rocks. It was explained to men that the God and Goddess will understand the effort and prayer/blessing. The rocks technically came from sacred ground.

As soon as you put statues or images in your house it call on the energy that represent this symbolism, most of the statues or images are not direct representation of spirits but of their power… sometimes it’s not even a spirits but a star or whatever. Look at the picatrix when they tell you do such and such representation for such and such star when you look at the sky do you see it look like it? That why when you see people having 3464744 images or statues in their house you can call bs. Sometimes even with 2 I already have a headache.
