If you think you are depressed or actually depressed then take very less <1g and if you are doing fine in life take 5g. And if you are taking 5g have someone around whom you can trust when the trip is coming to an end as it ends with what everyone calls ego-death.

Shrooms don't change your emotional state as a high or a low, they amplify what you are already experiencing. If you are depressed, stressed, anxious, etc, then I highly recommend avoiding shrooms until you have resolved that state of mind, because you will be in for a very bad trip if you don't.
If however life is good, you are somewhere you feel safe, you are content and/or happy and are in a relatively calm state of mind, then go for it.

Ego-death does not necessarily accompany every shroom trip. It depends drastically on what your experience on the shrooms are. However, you should go in with every expectation you will not be the same person when you come out of it. If that scares you, don't do them. That fear will only be amplified on the trip and then you really might come out a different person at the end, for the worse.

If you mean psilocybin mushrooms, then I'll go against the typical harm reduction narrative and say that taking too little is likely to result in a worse experience than taking too much. You can't physically eat enough of the mushroom for it to become a medical concern, unless there's dangerous drug interactions happening or you have a preexisting heart condition; worst thing that can happen to you is gastrointestinal upset and a bad trip.

Now a word about interactions... anything with a MAOI effect can lead to serotonine syndrome; grapefruit (juice, fruit, etc.) can lead to the same thing. (Don't ask me how I know lol... xD)

With too little you are risking being stuck in a highly unpleasant inbetween, trapped in your present moment with a greatly and unpleasantly amplified sensorium, and worst case you'll end up cleaning your apartment while feeling like all the demons of hell are on your case and quoting your every sin at you.

With too much, you're going to just "go away." It can be pleasant or unpleasant, worst case you might be risking a perceptual eternity in limbo, but if there's no "you" present as such (and with too much there won't be) it'll be somewhat easier to handle. :p

The only time I did them I was with a Gay boy conclave in Ocean City, MD. A ex gave them to me and somehow I got in a group of about 5 guys that ended up walking around the Ocean City boardwalk. The only thing that happened to me was my vision got "sparkly" (and for some reason I became talkative). So it affected my energy and perception slightly.

I second this. Though there is room for microdosing it can really easily just turn in to being annoyed or disappointed actually. 1.5-2.5 in my opinion, is a good starter dose, though it probably wont end up with intense visuals (aside from maybe closed eye) unless you are on the higher end of that dose (or more).

Are you tripping by yourself? I would suggest companionship of some kind for your first experience. If that's not an option, or even if it is, I recommend ritual drumming or chanting as a way of creating a low complexity flow state, giving you something simple to focus on and stay grounded without fighting the energy of your trip. But mostly just relax and don't get caught up in your experience. Relax, observe, ride the wave, but don't get sucked in or reactive.

Finally, other than possibly one or two people who know you are going to be tripping and have indicated that they are available if you need them, you should commit not to contact anyone while you're tripping. I often have the impulse to reach out to people, often in ways that seem positive, genuine, and heartfelt at the time, but I have often come to regret this. There will be plenty of time for that when you come down, if it still seems appropriate, and often it will.

Hi, friendly neighborhood ethnobotanist and mycologist enthusiast here. So I would ask if there is a particular species or strain of shroom you are thinking about trying? But since I have used various species for my personal practice and am a part of a group researching how shrooms can aid with depression and other health concerns I’ll do my best to give you some all around good advice. Though there has been decent advice already shared.

If this is your very first experience with shrooms and you are nervous I recommend actually trying something more recreational such as Mushies gummies first. There are various brands and flavors but all of them should give you a dosage breakdown. This is the safest way to try and get a good idea of how your body’s chemistry will handle the experience. Obviously I always recommend taking such products when in a good mental space, though micro dosing certain strains can treat depression and anxiety.

Assuming using the product went well or you’ve already done that and are ready to try the real deal then I recommend doing it in a safe space and having a trusted sober individual with you. So when I say safe space I mean a room or area devoid of things you could accidentally hurt yourself with or fall on. Preferably an area that is comfortable. For example my first time trying properly prepared Fly agaric I basically created a mini padded room in case I had a very negative reaction. I also had a trusted sober friend there with me.

also please be aware that if you are on certain medications for migraines, anxiety, sleep disorders, depression, etc… there is the potential for negative interactions. So since I don’t have the time to list for you all the many medications and shrooms that could interact with one another please do your own research first to discern what is best for you.

If you have a bad experience the best thing to do is remain calm, reminding yourself the effects are temporary and that you are safe. Hydrating, being comforted, doing grounding techniques, or a sober friend assisting you get to a change in scenery can all help. You probably won’t have to worry about a bad trip but some people with anxiety, night terrors, or sleep paralysis often find being high can trigger similar experiences for them. I personally have these problems and have trained myself not to be hindered by it, so don’t be discouraged if you are too. Just go into the experience well informed. In fact those who practice lucid dreaming usually do very well.

Now let’s discuss shroom types. Typically when we think of shrooms or magic mushrooms most people think of psilocybin. When ingested, the body converts psilocybin into psilocin, which binds to serotonin receptors in the brain to alter perception, mood, and the sense of time. Onset and Duration: Effects usually begin within 20 to 45 minutes of eating or drinking them (faster if consumed as a tea) and typically last for 4 to 6 hours. Perceptual Changes: Users often experience visual or auditory distortions, a sense of euphoria, altered thoughts, and heightened emotions. Physical Responses: Common reactions include dilated pupils, increased heart rate and blood pressure, dizziness, and mild nausea. (This is the part that often freaks people prone to anxiety or panic attacks out)

In my experience Psilocybe cubensis(golden tops) and Psilocybe semilanceata (liberty caps) are the most common choices. But there are about 200 species of Psilocybin around the globe. Preparation: They are commonly eaten fresh or dried, brewed into a tea, mixed into food or beverages, or ground up into capsules.

One of the ones I recommend trying if you are buying versus foraging is Magic Mushrooms Organic Golden teacher. (I brew mine or eat it) Below I listed relevant information on it so you can be well informed and see if it’s something that interests you.

Magic Mushrooms Organic Golden Teacher, showcasing the renowned Golden Teacher strain. Prepare for a truly awe-inspiring experience as these extraordinary mushrooms unleash a world of effects, including:

Effects:
Euphoria
Synesthesia
Temporal distortion
Visual enhancements
Profound spiritual introspection
Delve into the depths of consciousness and embrace the transformative journey that awaits. To ensure a safe and tailored experience, consider the following dosage recommendations:

Dosage Recommendations:
Microdose: 0.1-0.3 grams – Enhance mood, focus, and creativity without intense psychedelic effects.
Mild Experience: 0.5-1 gram – Induce a subtle shift in perception and mood elevation.
Moderate Journey: 1-2 grams – Experience a more pronounced psychedelic journey with enhanced visuals and introspection.
Intense Exploration: 2-3 grams – Dive into a profound psychedelic journey, suitable for experienced users seeking a transformative experience.
Heroic Voyage: 3+ grams – Venture into the realm of heroic doses, where profound insights and ego dissolution may occur. Recommended for experienced users only. This is the dose I do for ritual purposes, but you do you.

Please remember that individual responses may vary, and it’s crucial to create a safe and supportive environment when engaging with these powerful Mushrooms.

When doing them I personally like ritual shamanic drumming, chanting, or nature sounds. I find serpentine swaying motions while focusing on spirit flight helps me tune it towards a trance state versus just a trip and I usually lay down comfortably once a powerful experience begins. For me this is a deeply spiritual experience gifted to me from one of the most ancient beings on earth. (fungi are among the most ancient and foundational life forms on Earth. They are estimated to have originated over one billion years ago—well before complex multi-celled animals or land plants evolved.) It makes me feel rooted to The Wood Wide Web ( Also known as the mycelium network which is an underground web of branching, thread-like fungal cells called hyphae that form the main body of a fungus and connect plant root systems across vast areas allowing them to communicate and share resources), chthonic energy, and primordial earth.

If you guys want me to actually write more in depth articles here about foraging mushrooms, identification of the psychedelic and poisonous varieties, and proper preparation for beauties like fly agaric let me know. Especially if you’d be interested in the dark spiritual ecology of them, witchcraft, folklore, science, and lived experiences.🦇✨
