@Asteriskos I've seen a couple instances of people taking bad mushrooms, and unless you are well-trained and experienced, foraging for mushrooms is a high-risk activity. I know a guy that does foraging and he says it was years of training and practice with someone else well-versed before he was comfortable going solo and not risking poisoning his whole family.
Well, absolutely good advice there. A lot depends on your local bio-region, but caution is the better part of wisdom here for sure. I have extensive experience with "cubensis" ( had a teacher ) who could "seemingly" find them in the dark, as well as cultivating them while making it look easy!
We created a "sacramental rite" with honey and apricot nectar that's one of the "gems" of our group! I'm still "leery" of Amanita muscaria though
because dosage is critical, and let's be honest here, "nature is red in tooth and claw" and can kill or fuck you up in surprising ways, and be stunningly Beautiful while doing it!

There was a period where peyote buttons ( mescalin ) were all the rage here ( not native to this bio-region ) but you could take a few days and drive to the S.W. USA and forage. You can dry them and they keep well enough for a while. I'm grateful for those times, they are forever a part of what built my "path". While "entheogens" are not "necessary" for spiritual / magical development, they sure as hell do "augment and inform" your practice. ;)
