Crystals are very popular with new agers but can anyone tell me if crystals have actual uses and what those are etc etc, i recently came into owning some through a friend and most of the info i can find doesnt go any deeper then "cleanse them

) charge them

)))" and is generally unhelpful to me. I know some folk use them in wands to amplify energy and such. Was wondering if any forumites here use them at all?
Yes, they can have uses, but I would treat them as
ritual materia, not as magic batteries in the vague modern sense.
In older magical systems, stones are usually worked with through
correspondence, sympathy, and consecration. Their value comes from what they are linked to: planet, element, color, form, mythic virtue, mineral nature, or the spirit/intelligence under which they are prepared.
Some practical uses:
1. Talismans
A stone can be engraved, marked, prayed over, suffumigated, anointed, and consecrated under a specific planetary or spiritual force. For example, a stone linked to Venus would be treated very differently from one linked to Saturn or Mars.
2. Anchors for force
A crystal can serve as a physical “body” or vessel for a specific current. In that sense it helps hold, stabilize, or localize the force raised in ritual.
3. Wands and ritual tools
When placed in a wand, ring, pendant, or staff, the stone gives the tool a particular quality. Quartz may be used as a general focusing medium; darker stones may be used for absorption, protection, or chthonic work; red stones for martial force, vitality, or severing; green or copper-associated stones for Venusian work.
4. Scrying and vision
This is one of the clearest traditional uses. Crystal balls, obsidian mirrors, polished stones, and dark reflective surfaces are used to receive images, visions, or impressions.
5. Boundary and altar work
Stones can mark directions, elements, planetary zones, or ritual boundaries. They make invisible structures easier to fix in physical space.
6. Offerings and spirit work
Certain stones may be offered, placed on seals, used to weigh down petitions, or assigned to a spirit as part of a working arrangement.
The “cleanse and charge” advice is usually shallow because it skips the real question:
cleanse from what, charge with what, and under whose authority?
For me, a better approach is:
Choose the stone according to the operation.
Purify it.
Consecrate it under a specific force, planet, angel, intelligence, spirit, deity, or divine name.
Give it a defined task.
Use it consistently for that task.
Without consecration and purpose, a crystal is mostly just a beautiful object with symbolic potential. With proper ritual preparation, it becomes a fixed point through which a specific current can be focused.
