Hi, could you please guide me in the area of astrology when it comes to finding suitable dates, so that an important life event (such as marriage, starting a new business etc) is done in an auspicious moment? I know it is a pretty general question, but let me explain. When I read about astrology, it is all feel-good talk. How do I know when it is a bad moment to act. My understanding of astrology is that it is all about finding out what "current" or forces are dominant at the moment and which are weak at the moment. Any good books on that? Does it even matter?

Right now, Jupiter is visible near Aldebaran in Taurus, indicating stability. If you use Western astrology, Jupiter is in Gemini, indicating change. These are contradictory meanings applied to the exact same astrological event. Which is correct? You are in charge of picking which system you want to use. If someone tells you that these mutually contradictory situations mean the same thing, that is further evidence that astrological events can mean whatever you want at any time. Pick any moment of any day, and you can demonstrate with the chart of that moment how it's an awesome time or a terrible time for the exact same things, depending on how you want to see it.

It's a major occult heresy that will almost certainly get piles of hate poured onto it, but astrological events have zero relation to reality and are completely meaningless to the effect of anything whatsoever in magical undertakings. If you think it makes your magic better, good for you, but you can also completely ignore it or get it completely wrong and come up with the same result.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I do not have any strong opinion on that. Astrology is almost completely alien to me.

I am glad that most people aren't able to use astrology. It would be bad to have it in the wrong hands. People will believe what they want to believe. You should find out for yourself by educating yourself. It is 40 years ago this Spring when my life changed with my beginning to study it. Once you see it around you, as well as compare the events in your life from the past to what was happening with the stars at the time, you will be at a higher level of understanding than most of the people around you. Astrology is about different types of energy, and their timing in the different areas of our lives, among other things. A good site to study from and make charts is astro.com You can make free charts there, and making your natal chart gives you a good base to study from. Alabe.com is a site that you can make a free Astro-Weather chart from. This is a current (or otherwise) chart for your location, that shows what is going on at that moment in your area, as well as give a brief description of the certain aspects that are current, should you wish to use that to learn from. A handy and very useful tool is the 2025 Llewellyn Astrology Calendar, available on Amazon. It shows the lunar and planetary aspects for each day of the year, and is great for making plans. Getting an understanding of the energies that the planets are symbolic of is a good starting point. Currently, the Moon is heading for a trine to Saturn. It won't be exact for almost one day (7:39 PM Central Time on Wednesday), but it's effects are building up and noticeable all the way until it is exact. That is the next major lunar aspect, anyway. It deal with work and responsibility. But there is a minor lunar aspect before that, exact at 9:44 AM Wednesday. This is a fortunate and expansive type of energy, in the hours before that time. You could check out the sources of astrology learning material before that time, with the Moon heading for 150 degrees (quincunx) from Jupiter that is exact then.

This is the field of Hoary Astrology. You can get some astrologers to cast a hoary chart for you.

That should be horary astrology - I always misspell that.

You're looking for Electional Astrology which is an ancient form of Astrology in which you select dates and times to perform things and in the context of magic dates and times to perform rituals. As of right now I think Christopher Warnock is the leading magical electional astrologer in the Astrology community. He has worked on translating a few old works on astrology and has a website called Rennaissance Astrology where he publishes blog posts about different facets of it. Christopher Warnock worked on a translation of The Picatrix which is a recipe book of elections. I use the Dan Attrell translation of The Picatrix these days but Christopher Warnocks is great for the astrologer because it was translated with the astrologer in mind.

He is a fan of William Lilly who's magnum opus is Christian Astrology 1647. If you want a historical tome that was a turning point for the transition between classical astrology to modern astrology.

Benjamin Dykes is a modern scholar and astrologer who works with incredible arabic and hellenic material and has an extremely large repertoire of works he's published. His material is ridiculously dense but if you are committed jumping around his catalog of publications will get you pretty close to the primary sources on electional and horary astrology (horary is where you divine a question with a chart). Id recommend his translation of Carmen Astrologicum to start.

I would say if you are very serious to begin approaching mideval Arabic works on electional Astrology once youve worked through some Benjamin Dykes as that is the pinnacle of astrological literature. It is highly syncretic of ancient Astrology and also incredibly innovative and masterful. I don't think Astrology has ever been as flawless as the Astrology of the caliphate.

Good luck. Electional Astrology is ridiculously powerful. When I learned it my life was elevated in a massive way.
