[Tutorial] Aviaf's Grimoire of Influence

Informative post.
I’m attempting to turn Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People into a chaos magick grimoire of influence, with each point not just explained but given examples and practical techniques. This is a direct copy/paste from my personal writings. If anyone can find use from it, awesome. If you use it, give it at least 30 days and watch it work. I'd like to hear about it, as well but that's up to you.

Let’s go point by point and expand into a working magical frame you can train with daily:

1. Reality as Fluid: People as Mutable Symbols

Carnegie: Every person has a unique perspective.
Chaos Magick; Every person is a symbol set, an archetypal mask you can work with.

Techniques & Examples
  • Symbol Mapping: When you meet someone, quickly “read” them as an archetype: The King (authority), The Child (seeks validation), The Trickster (tests boundaries), etc. This turns the person into a magical symbol you can approach as if invoking an entity.
  • Conversational Sigils: Treat key words (their name, their interests) as sigils that unlock rapport. Example: repeating “Well, Sarah, that’s exactly what I was thinking…” charges her name with attention energy.
  • Gesture Magic: Your nod, smile, posture = glyphs that activate resonance in the person-symbol.

2. Emotional Contagion as Force Manipulation

Carnegie → Smile, praise, listen, avoid criticism.
Chaos Magick → Emotions are energetic currents you can send like spells.

Techniques & Examples
  • Praise as Enchantment: When you sincerely appreciate someone, you’re casting glamour. “You really have a sharp eye for detail” embeds a subtle current that makes them want to live up to it.
  • Complaint Banishing: Criticism = sending baneful energy. Instead, reframe it like banishing with laughter or curiosity. Example: instead of “You’re late again,” say, “You’ve been running time experiments again, haven’t you?” → lightens energy while addressing issue.
  • Mood Anchoring: Enter with strong positive energy (smile, grounded body language). You “entrain” others into your current like a tuning fork.

3. Identity Magic

Carnegie → Make others feel important, talk in their terms.
Chaos Magick → Identity is a mask; you can sculpt the one they’re wearing in the moment.

Techniques & Examples
  • Archetype Elicitation: Find what identity they most want to embody, and amplify it. Talking to a boss? “Your leadership reminds me of…” → invokes their King archetype.
  • Role Alignment: Temporarily match your role to theirs for rapport. With a mentor, play the eager student; with a peer, mirror as ally.
  • Sigilized Compliment: Encode an identity reinforcement into praise. Example: Instead of “You did a good job,” say “That was masterful — you’re a natural strategist.” You’re writing a sigil into their self-concept.

4. Intent + Form = Effect

Carnegie → The small behaviors (smile, listen, name use) shape perception.
Chaos Magick → Sigil formula: Intent + Symbol + Charge = Manifestation.

Techniques & Examples

  • Smile Spell: Intent = welcome energy. Form = relaxed smile. Effect = other person feels warmth and trust.
  • Name Invocation: Intent = amplify attention. Form = say their name at key moments. Effect = deep unconscious rapport.
  • Listening as Evocation: Intent = draw out their energy. Form = silence + eye contact + small affirmations. Effect = they reveal themselves, giving you their symbolic keys.

5. Social Operations as Low-Risk Spellcraft

Carnegie → It’s about practicing habits of interaction.
Chaos Magick → Every conversation = mini-ritual, with low stakes but cumulative power.

Techniques & Examples
  • Daily Practice: Treat social interactions as your banishing rituals of the day. Each time you apply Carnegie’s principles, log them like magical experiments.
  • Energy Tracking: Note how your own state shifts before/after interactions. Did the spell succeed? Did it backfire?
  • Micro-Sigil Log: Write down “spells” you tried. Example: [Intent: build trust → Form: name + smile → Effect: person relaxed shoulders]

6. Framing It in Chaos Terms (The Ritual of Influence)

This is the grimoire-level summary.

Ritual: The Art of Influence

  • Tools: Attention, praise, genuine interest, body language.
  • Procedure:
    1. Observe subject as symbol/archetype.
    2. Identify their drives and align with them.
    3. Cast micro-sigils (words, gestures, names).
    4. Anchor positive currents; banish negativity with humor or reframing.
    5. Leave them empowered (so energy exchange remains renewable).
  • Goal: Align their perception with your intent while strengthening your own presence.

Example in Practice (Putting It All Together)

You walk into a meeting with your boss:
  • You map him as The King archetype.
  • You invoke rapport by saying, “I really admire how decisively you handled that last issue.” → identity magic.
  • You repeat his name at the start/end: “Good morning, David…” and “Thanks for your time, David.” → sigil invocation.
  • You match his posture slightly, listen intently, ask questions in his interest. → energy resonance.
  • He leaves feeling respected and competent. You leave having subtly aligned him to support your agenda.

The diary can double as your Book of Shadows of Influence. Each interaction becomes a log of magical experiments where Carnegie = the spellbook, and the world = your temple.

Now to build a 30-Day Chaos Magician Influence Spellbook — each day is a ritualized exercise, linked to a principle from the expanded grimoire, with concrete micro-evocations, intent, and logging prompts.
