This Balkan witchcraft ritual is one of the ones my grandmother used to perform when she wanted to bring spouses or families back together, especially in cases where the husband had left his wife and run off with another woman.
It must be done at sunrise on a day of a full moon or close to it. You go to a watermill and collect water from the wheel in a clean container or jar, while the mill wheel is turning, scooping up water and spraying it. You must also gather seven different blooming flowers (any kind) from seven different gardens/yards belonging to happily married families (meaning households where there has been no divorce, separation, or widowhood). You also need pure honey from a beehive.
A spoonful of the honey and the seven flowers are added to the water. This is done at the home hearth, or if there isn’t one, in front of the household icon corner. The water with everything in it is stirred by hand, and the following incantation is said seven times:
“As the mill wheel turns, so may it turn the mind of (the man’s name) to return back to (the woman’s name)!
As the other families are happy, so may my family be happy (or the family of so-and-so)!
As the honey is sweet, so may (the man’s name) be sweet toward (the woman’s name)!”
From this water, a little is sprinkled every morning on the doorstep of the home until it runs out. It becomes most powerful if the departing husband is sprinkled with this water. The remaining flowers are dried and wrapped in the man’s shirt or clothing.
This ritual always produced great results, and I have seen how my grandmother helped various women in the village and neighboring areas who sought her help to reunite with the husbands who had left them and restore their families.
