I will share with you a ritual from my folk tradition (Balkan witchcraft), which I learned from my grandmother and which is used to attract beauty and charm. It can be done when an important meeting is coming up, to impress people and win their sympathy.
It is necessary, early at sunrise, to collect water from three rivers, or three springs or ponds. This collected water is poured into a clean vessel or bowl. You also take the following plants: a sprig of basil, a sprig of St. John’s Wort, and a sprig of yarrow (all fresh). They are tied into a small bundle, and this bundle is placed into the bowl of water and stirred. During this time, the following incantation is spoken over the water three times:
“Good morning, flowing water!
As you pass through stones, sand, and roots
To see the face of the sun,
So may I pass through all people,
And be desired as the shining sun!
With my tongue I shall enchant,
With clean water I shall wash.
With a stalk of holy plants I shall sweep,
So when I go out into the world,
All shall look at me,
All shall love me and invite me!”
After that, you should sprinkle your face and head with this enchanted water, and then you can head off to the meeting. The plants are left to dry and then carried in one’s bossom.
In the past, this rite was performed when a young maiden was going to a gathering and wanted to impress the young men or suitors, so that she would be liked and desired.
