i am a total baby in witchcraft, tho ive read into the basics. first of all i really would like to learn more about protection because i really am lost. also ive read a post and the replies said it was “spell begging” please forgive me if i am doing this right now, i have no idea what yall are talking abou, i still have a lotttttt to learn. it would be really nice if someone could help me with the basics, thank you very much!!

For the New World sorcery traditions like Hoodoo, Conjure, and Brujeria traditions, Jason Miller's book is pretty okay, if I recall.

I am versed and trained in many practices due to having been blessed with the time to devote to my passions, however, my main personal practice is an ecstatic necromantic witchcraft deeply rooted in animism/folklore/oneiric practices/plant spirit teachers/and being a psychopomp. Anyway, just let me know what sort of practice you are comfortable with and I will happily give you some good spiritual protection advice.

Hello, I am a practicioner of High Magick for about 3 years so I consider myself a begginer and I have read very little about self defense but I do have few books I can recommend, those being "The Witches Shield - Protection Magick and Psychic Self Defense" by Christopher Penczak, "A Witchs Defense Manual - Protection & Reversal Magick" by Jason Miller and probably 2 more which are more into the High Magick Psychic Self Defense category but usefull for a begginer, those are "Psychic Self Defense" by Dion Fortune and "Practical Guide to Psychic Self Defense" by Denning & Phillips.

Darkness is as much a part of human existence as light is. I don't think people here on WF are typically interested in being freed of darkness, sorry to say that.

I have problems with the fact that you are posting this in a very beginner topic. A beginner may be not seasoned enough to put this offer aside as nonsense. I find this quite rude to be honest.

To the OP: please open the library section and read through all the books that are about witchcraft or other topics that are interesting. There is so much information just one click away. Enjoy! There is nothing wrong with reading one of even a few years about topics that interest you just before you start to practice. And another basic:

so as i kind of have no idea where to start and whats true and what isnt, im just gonna tell you what i know. somewhere ive read about types of witches, i liked the electrical witch pretty much. speaking of types of witchcraft: i feel very drawn to the forest and the life in it, other than that ive read about Hedge Witchcraft, Shadow Witchcraft, Protection Witchcraft and Spirit Witchcraft. id also love learn more about nature spirits, runes and sigils and the meaning of crows in witchcraft. somewhere ive read about greeting crows when i see some, my question would be why and how do i do that. ? thank you very much for your help!! :3

Greetings. So it is my understanding that you probably wrote eclectic witchcraft and it was auto corrected to electrical witchcraft. Eclectic meaning your style would use what you like from multiple styles of witchcraft forming one unique to you. It looks like you’re currently most interested in new age and nature based witchcrafts and I can definitely work with that. In truth if your focus was hedge witchcraft you would be getting to work with spirits, nature, fae, herbalism, folklore, and they can of course do protective magic as well.

This book will help you learn the basics of green witchcraft which I think you will enjoy.

The book Crows and Ravens: Mystery, Myth, and Magic of Sacred Corvids by: Rick De Yampert is sold on Amazon and lots of witchy online shops and I believe you would find it very useful in gaining a better understanding of crows. Not all witches work with them. For many it comes down to do crows or ravens have significant meaning to your chosen god/goddess, is that your spirit animal or fetch form, do they symbolize something significant in your personal practice. As a whole most people agree they are symbols of wisdom, change, transformation, messengers of death, omens of ill-luck, figures associated with war, witches because in the Middle Ages they were considered familiars, tricksters, memory, thought, etc… it really comes down to what do they symbolize to you and your chosen path. Culture/mythos will really affect all symbolism in witchcraft. When working with the Morrigan crows and ravens were meaningful to me especially if I saw them on my journeys. As for greeting them just softly say hello and give them a safe treat if you have one and it’s legal where you live.

For protection the books Protection and Reversal Magick by: Jason Miller, The Witches Shield by: Christopher Penczak, Saining for Gaelic Polytheist by: Marissa Hegarty, and Everyday Psychic Defense by: Casandra Eason are Pretty useful and can be applied/adapted to most practices. Beyond the books you will find Celtic sea salt is protective. As well as Smoke/incense from Juniper, Cypress, sage, Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Cedar (Not safe around small animals in any form if you have rabbits don’t use cedar in your incense, essential oil diffusers, candles, spray smudges, or on them in anyway.) dragons blood resin, Palo santo, and Yerba Santa to name some popular ones. Many find various crystals protective such as Obsidian, Jet, black tourmaline, amethyst, and smoky quartz, etc. as a potential hedge witch p/nature based witch you might consider talismans made from Rowan, hawthorn, or blackthorn. Or having plants like st. John’s Wort, roses, and blackberries around. There are so many other protective plants and practices that I would need to dedicate an entire thread to it but I hope this is a helpful start for you.

I’ll try to message you more reading recommendations and book links that would be helpful to you later when I have the chance. I know we have more good ones in the library here I’m just having trouble finding them at the moment.

The OP should be really grateful to you - what with all the library sites out there, finding books for free has become like shooting fish in a barrel nowadays; however, the difficulty is discovering worthwhile books to post amongst all the fluff out there.

When searching the Library, please go to Book Shares, click on Search, tick the "Search titles only" and select "This forum". Better use one of the longer words from the name of the book as a search expression, people sometimes forget to mention the author.
