I have a couple of questions about the Bornless Ritual: First, what would happen if I used it in an attempt to summon Lucifer? I mean, since Lucifer is the spirit of rebellion and freedom, wouldn’t it be somewhat contradictory to try to assert authority over him so he’ll do what I ask? And second, can’t I just jump over the hierarchies if I performed the Bornless Ritual? Since summoning spirits using hierarchies is like telling them, “Hey, look, I have your boss’s authorization,” and in the Bornless Ritual you ask God Himself for power and authorization, wouldn’t that make you the highest-ranking being in the operation, and therefore would you be able to skip the hierarchies and summon the spirit you want to contact directly?

without Crowley's Egyptian trappings.

There have been numerous discussions who exactly the Headless One is. Some think it's the Egyptian god Bes because he's sometimes shown as beheaded with his head between his feet ("I am the Headless One with sight in the feet!") but he's a minor deity, not the mythological creator of the universe. Other say it's the Gnostic demiurge but I see him more as a generic godform - he has no human head because he can turn into any (Egyptian) god; just add the head of a jackal, for example, and you get Anubis, just add an ibis' head, and it's Thot you're looking at.

However, two principles should be heeded when modifiying the Headless Rite (not that it needs any modification, in my opinion):
  • "Change not the barbarous names of evocation, for they are Names Divine, having in the Sacred Rites a power ineffable." (Chaldean Oracles). This is where Crowley went wrong, he should have left the barbarous names alone. I've performed the (PGM) ritual many times, and no matter how you decide to pronounce them, these voces magicae will have a powerful effect on you (

). It might be a sign of habituation but I just adore the way they roll off my tongue.
  • My reading of the ritual is that it's a rite of empowerment. It's original purpose was exorcism, so first you summon a god in all his might, power and glory, then you establish your own authority ("I am Moses thy prophet to whom thou hast transmitted thy mysteries celebrated by Israel", i.e. a powerful sorcerer, a messenger of the pharao, etc.), and as a final step, you become the god ("I am the Headless One with sight in my feet, strong in the immortal fire!"). Now you're divine and able to do anything you like, be it an exorcism, perform other rituals from a position of strength (the GD and Crowley used the Headless Rite in its original form as a preparatory ritual for Goetic operations), call upon your HGA, Lucifer, etc.
You're entirely correct in assuming that this ritual makes you the highest-ranking being in the operation. The PGM don't mess about. Their approach is completely different from the Abrahmic-inspired grimoires. In this ritual you become god, and nobody's screaming "Blasphemy!" In other PGM rituals, the gods are cajoled, coerced or even blackmailed, so yes, that ritual will put you on top of the heap. You won't even have to ask Lucifer for favors, you can become him, or talk to him eye to eye, from one divine being to the other.

The way I perform it is to speak the main part in a lyrical voice, like reciting a poem, and then thundering out the glorious last lines (wording by Jason Miller in "Real Sorcery"):

I am the Headless One with sight in my feet, strong in the immortal fire!
I am the truth that hates that evil is wrought in the world!
I am the one that makes the lightening flash and the thunder roll!
I am the one whose sweat is heavy rain which falls upon the earth, making it fertile.
I am the one whose mouth is utterly aflame!
I am the destroyer and begetter!
I am the grace of the Aeon!
“HEART GIRT WITH A SERPENT” is my name!
Come forth and follow!

It can give you quite a rush once you lean into it.

Hello! You have two interesting questions. What would happen if you attempt to summon Lucifer? and "Persuading an entity on behalf of higher authority". Contrary to popular belief, invoking a high ranking spirit is not that easy. Ask yourself; how often is in front of you the person with the highest authority of your city? how often the king of a land living in monarchy appears in you dormitory to follow your orders? According to my experience; The power of imagination, auto-suggestion or obsession. is not enough to pull a high frequency out his world to come to your aid. You will need a world changing motive, real talent or, at least patience. If you have problem understanding my statement, please, ask for a clarification. English is not my native language.

The bornless ritual is wrong. It was the part Crowley missed. He took a banishing spell from the PGM (papyrus of Greek magic), filled it full of graffiti, and said it was to summon the holy guardian angel because he didn't know what he was talking about. None of the Victorians could cast spells of any meaningful power.

The actual summoning of the personal daimon is earlier in the pgm. It only requires a couple eggs and a week of morning repetitions. Don't believe the Thelemites. I am attaching a link to my copy of the pgm.

Lucifer is a egregore for the banal materialism, and shitty self indulgence of western people. Try something more real and much more powerful like Ruhaniyat, or Egyptian magic. Why idolize the idiot beliefs of stupid fucking white people. I am white people, and I hate them. Shit, if you really want to know "the devil" get into evangelical Christianity. They are objectively the vessel for mindless destruction and stupidity, and that seems to be all that "Satan" seems to be good for.

Thanks but we already have the Betz translation here. It's not a good idea to share a book in a reply outside the Library, it might get overlooked; besides, mega.io is the only filehoster permitted in this forum.

The blog I mentioned has these optional lines composed by its author:

Send to me my neverborn friend and guardian, my supernatural assistant, my agathodaimon, my holy guardian angel! Send to me the spirit NN. whose duty it is to guide, lead, assist, and protect me through this and all lives!”

It's a sort of 'add-in' which I also used but it always feels more like a prayer, not like a petition or a command, and didn't get me any results either.

By the way, there's this paper by scholar Eleni Pachoumi called "The Religious-Philosophical Concept of Personal Daimon" (

, just log in with Google or FB) where she analyzes four PGM daimon spells (the spell with the two eggs is in VII. 521–28).

It’s a very potent formula, the Crowley modification is a theurgic empowerment of the vessel and invocation of and marriage with the highest divine power. If you can pull that off, why would you want to evoke an arch angelic force.

Actually, I use the shortened, simplified version that appears in New Avatar Power—it has never failed me.

It is as follows:

"Thee I invoke, The Bornless One. Thou art Man made perfect, whom no man has seen at any time. This is He whom the winds fear. Hear me, and make all subject unto me, so that every spell and scourge of the Vast One shall be made obedient to me.

"I am He, the Bornless Spirit, strong and of immortal fire. I am He, the Truth, that lighteneth and thundereth. I am He whose mouth ever flameth. I am He the begetter and manifester unto the Light."

I have experience with Goetia. Although I’ve never summoned Lucifer, I have summoned other demons and even angels, so I don’t think I’ll have any problems in that regard, but thanks.

Well, you could just write up an archaic exorcism ritual on paper , tear a part of it off and use that part to expand on and change some names and switcheroo and declare that it now is something different and use it to invoke your own perfection .
