Hi everyone,

As a someone who is an animist and heavily utilises plants/herbs in their craft, I thought I'd share some of my favourite ways of developing a relationship with a plant spirit/ally :)

1. Growing it (if possible) -- one of THE best ways to build a bond fast, because you're literally tending to and nurturing the plant. I grow mine from seed, if possible, but seedlings from a nursery work as well. Talk to it, sing to it, tell it how you'd like to work with it.

2. Praying over it prior to use, tell if what you would like it to do. I will breathe over my herb/plant and tell it that I've shared my breath of life and ask that it shares its power and energy with me for the following task (then tell it what I'd like it to do).

3. Make a tea with an intention. If I'm building a new relationship, I'll usually use just that herb on its own so I can get a feel of its energy.

4. Create art to honour the spirit.

5. Give it gifts of crystal, incense smoke, music, etc.

6. If it's a larger plant (like a tree) I'll decorate it and adorn it with ornaments.

7. Meditate with it on your forehead, ask it how it likes to work energetically and what tasks it likes to fulfil.

8. Learn about its history in ancient civilisations.

These are just a few ways, I hope you find them helpful for building your own relationships with plants!
