Hi, first of all thank you for your time and sorry if this is not the right Thread for this question.

I ask a Tarrot reader the following question:
What will my life and career look like one year from now?
The result was:
Cards: PAS, 10S, PAP
Card Pulls
PAS: Page of Swords
10S: Ten of Swords
PAP: Page of Pentacles

Can someone help me reading this cards. Please.
Thanks in advance...

Hold on now, the Page of Swords is telling you to be persistent through the coming difficulties represented by the Ten of Swords. Also, Swords represent air, so it is also telling you to keep your wits about you and focus on using your intellect instead of your emotions. Remain reasonable and act intelligently. Also, keep in mind the difference between the Ten of Swords and the Tower. Something may come to an end (such as your job), but it won't be as traumatic as the Tower.

The Page of Pentacles represents some financial gain at the end, and new opportunities.

That's my interpretation, for whatever it's worth. Best of luck with the difficulties.

Did the Tarot reader offer an interpretation?

I should have added that nothing is carved in stone. The reading represents the most probable outcomes based on the patterns of energy that are in motion. Since you're a magician, you can always work to change them through magic. I.e., lay out the cards again during a ritual, but replace the Ten of Swords with a more favorable card.

Denning and Phillips wrote an entire book on this subject, although it's been out of print. They were ceremonial magicians, so they wrote about designing elaborate ceremonial rituals to do this.

On the other hand, more recently, others have suggested that it can be as simple as charging your new, favorable card like a sigil.

Whatever you do, you should use some method of divination, such as a pendulum, to make sure you are on the right track. Once divination tells you that it's working, start repeating the ritual every day to lock in the energy of your replacement card.

It's hard to know what to recommend because your circumstances are vague. But the more people that would be affected, the more energy you need to move. For example, if the business you work for might close down, a lot of people would be affected. That would mean calling for the big guns, such as D&P-style planetary magic rituals for card replacement.

On the other hand, if it just means getting your name off of a layoff list, then simpler methods would do.

Or, you could just be fatalistic and go with the flow of the original cards. Persevere, keep your eyes on the prize just like the Page of Pentacles, and come out the other side in good shape.

These three cards mean you begin to voice your dissatisfaction at work. This gradually builds into a brutally honest wake up call, a moment where you recognize that you’ve been in denial and holding onto a situation at work long past its expiration date. And your focus shifts toward building a more steady routine.

Putting them together as a story:

You begin in a period of questioning, researching, and preparing (Page of Swords). Then something significant ends (Ten of Swords)—perhaps a job, a way of working, or an outlook that has run its course. Out of that ending comes a fresh practical opportunity (Page of Pentacles), where you'll be learning again but in a more stable and productive direction...

For your specific question—"What will my life and career look like one year from now?"—the spread could be summarized as:

-You'll likely know much more than you do now and may spend time acquiring new knowledge.
-An important chapter in your career is likely to end before the year is over.
-Rather than remaining in that ending, you'll move into a new phase with strong potential for growth, especially if you're willing to learn and develop new skills.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to share your interpretations, this has been genuinely helpful and gave me a lot to reflect on. The point about the Page of Swords being a guide through the Ten of Swords rather than a final outcome really shifted how I read the spread. And the suggestion about replacing the Ten of Swords through ritual is something I want to explore further which leads me to my question.
I currently work within the Islamic occult tradition, specifically 'Ilm al-Hikmah, the lineage that runs through Al-Buni's Shams al-Ma'arif and the grimoires of Al-Toukhi.
My current daily practice includes:
  • A morning invocation of light working with the divine names Ya Allah, Ya Al-Haqq, Ya Mubin, Ya Nur Al-Nur
  • A daily wird of Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum (100x) for spiritual awakening and inner stability
  • Istighfar (100x) for purification and clearing interference
  • Ya Lateef (129x) before sleep to open communication with my Qareen (my personal spirit companion)
  • Active dream journaling as a primary channel for receiving guidance
  • Meditation focused on developing visualization and liminal state awareness

I have also recently completed a three-night Terrestrial Jinn summoning from the Al-Toukhi grimoire and a dissolution ritual (Hall al-Uqd) for clearing emotional and spiritual blockages.

Given this framework, I am wondering what approaches you would recommend for working with the Ten of Swords energy, either to soften the ending it represents or to accelerate the transition into the Page of Pentacles. I am particularly interested in whether planetary magic (the suggestions around Jupiter or Venus timing feel relevant to me) could complement what I already practice, or whether there are divination methods you would suggest to track whether my workings are having an effect.
I am also sitting with the fatalistic option going with the flow, keeping my eyes on the Page of Pentacles, and trusting that the ending will clear the way for something better. Part of me feels that may be the wiser path.

Any thoughts from those with experience blending traditions or working with card replacement rituals would be genuinely appreciated.

Thank you again.

about replacing the Ten of Swords through ritual

If you look at my reply above, there’s nothing bad coming through for you. When it comes to tarot or oracle, the cards that show up are meant for you in that moment. Trying to change a card with a ritual doesn’t change the reality it’s pointing to, it’s useless.

Think of it like a mirror. If you don’t like what you see in the reflection, painting over the mirror won’t change your face. So instead of trying to overwrite the card with a ritual, it’s better to work with the message and understand what it’s showing you.
