I was directed from the tutorials section to here with a basic question.

As a total newbie, I have done a few very basic candle rituals. I definitely attempt to listen to my instincts and intentions, but I'm never sure what's appropriate in terms of ending the candle ritual.

Is it best to:

A - Continue to concentrate and focus intentions until the candle completely burns out on its own. (This can be tricky with larger prayer candles that can burn for days if you let them).

B - Stop the ritual when you feel it best to stop and let the candle burn until it goes out on its own.

C - Stop the ritual when you feel its best to stop and gently put out the candle when you feel its best to do so?

D - Is there a standard or more magical way to end the ritual?

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Someone had mentioned in this previous post that they used shorter candles like birthday candles to decrease the wait time, but that feels almost like a loop hole to me, personally.

I did some candle magic early on, then lost interest in it. But here's what you can do

Get some practice in deep meditative states. Then when you can handle that well, lay down and hold the candle in your hand while in as deep a state as you can still function and 'imprint' the achieved goal into the candle. Then when you light it you can again visualize what you want if you wish. Then leave it alone, and let it burn for as long as you simply feel it should. There's superstitions that don't matter to results,ie I'd just blow out the candle and it didn't matter.

And zooming out- It's imperative that you learn to trust yourself. More than anything occultism (in its truest form) is about standing on your own two feet.

There are different ways of approaching this. I practice fire kasina which aims more for meditative absorption into the after image than it does in dealing directly with the candle. In this path the candle is largely irrelevant as the after image becomes so pronounced that it can persist for hours when the mind becomes fully immersed.

Candle magic in a witchcraft tradition might use the candle to focus energy outward. In this case the candle burning to completion would have greater symbolic power and disrupting the process might represent a disruption of the outward manifestation of one's will.

Unless you have a fireproof room, I wouldn't recommend leaving a burning candle unattended. Whenever you work with a real candle, I definitely recommend keeping a small fire extinguisher handy, but out of sight, No act of magic is worth burning your home down.

Just blow the candle out when you feel ready. I've done it, it works just fine.

You can also repeat the spell over successive nights (or mornings or afternoons or whenever you practice). That way the candle continues to burn down.

If you've carved symbols of your intent into the candle, then you should definitely let it burn at least long enough to burn them away and release their energy. Then carved them again if you repeat the spell, let it burn through them again, etc.

You can also compose an incantation for the spell. Repeat it over and over and with passion until you decide to put out the candle.

Then carved them again . . .
"carve", not "carved"
