Anyone here do mma or another combat based martial art & incorporate Qigong or another energy system with it?

I've been doing mma/boxing for 30 years & many more styles of martial arts though the others are self taught.

My system is mixed ; firstly , due to the varied arts I studied and practiced and secondly , I eventually got a REALLY GOOD teacher - any good system should be a 'mix' of arts* . But I have not been in 'MMA competition ' ... and way too old for it now anyway .

* meaning , someone might watch teacher and go .. ''Oh , karate move ! '' later ... ''Oh , was that a ju-jitsu technique ? ... Now he is wrestling ! ''

another example , I did a little SCA ( you know; armor, axes swords spears shields ) one guy was very impressive , I watched him move closely , afterwards ; '' They were some pretty nifty moves you made there , have you practiced aikido ?''

'' Aikido ? Ha ! Look, we all have the same bodies that move the same way , or dont, and we are all susceptible to leverage , gravity, position , balance , all the same . YOu just have to know what you are doing .''

I didnt incorporate Qigong into it ... something very similar though ( depending on what you mean by Qigong )

I been going about 50 years . I did ju-jitsu and wrestling as lad then went into Shotokan , Sikiran , pentjac silat, aiki-kai , Shorin Ryu , Kobudo and then found the best teacher of all previous ( who unfortunately passed on ago * ) . I do bo, jo and sticks (Arnis ) . Sai , kama (from Hohan Soken's 3 of each katas and applications ) double machete , a bit of tonfa , dagger and knife , ecu (oar ) , short and long spear , sword (boken ) and a bit of , the most tricky of all ; surujin ... which is NOTHING like you see the experts demonstrate or in the movies ... you find that out when you actually try to use it realistically against a sword ! Now I am just focusing on FMA - awesome stuff !

That's a nice list & quite the amount of experience you must still feel young & agile.

You only feel old if you allow yourself to feel old I'm 36 and move around better than when I was 18. Movement keeps you young

I still hit trees daily to keep my body hard I refuse to be that 60 year old who can't move well haha I wannabe that 80 year old still kicking & running around like a kid.

Keeping that child like spirit alive will keep your spirit young it's good to look stupid & act foolish move more then needed & act funny

ahhhhh ... the innocence of 'youth ' ^

here is how it goes ; you do fine , have a little accident or injury (say your shoulder ) , no probs , get better . maybe a couple of others over the years .

You hit 70 and any upset ... ''Owww ... damn shoulder ..... damn hip replacement ... if only I never rode my motorcycle that way ... then out of the blue ... what ???? I am diabetic , or have osteo-plasmosis- thingamajig ..... whats that you say ... my bloodstream has micro plastics in it now ? !!!

and you still have your daily exercise routine except now they are given to you by the physiotherapist and you have to fit all the other stuff intoo ... but no hard impact , no flying through the air rolling and coming up fighting (aikido style )

But hey ... good on ya ! Enjoy while you can . ( and what is more important than what you said ; keep enjoying whatever you can - while you can ! )
