[Opinion] Communities focused on "the mind powers" should not exist

Everyone's got one.

I was browsing the reddit these days and found a subreddit called "Psionics" and got to read some posts there.

Frankly, what I read there reminded me why communities with a focus on psychic stuff just doesn't work(differently from other subjects like the occult or the esoteric).

Most people know not what they're getting into or talking about and it's clear that most, if not all, are either trying to fulfil fantasies of power by acting delusional, or by "showing off without showing" by making hidden claims of their prowess in the "mind arts".

And that reminded me of some sites I went to when I was way younger.Never really interacted with people in them, just "lurked"(and read), but remembering them now with the mindset I have today...I would say it's a safe bet to say that it was a mix of cringy and fake, with the true bits being very sparse and basically buried under trash.

For some odd reason, communities that had a section dedicated to psychics/psionics seemed to fare way better than those that focused entirely on it.
I never understood why though...is it because the mind is tricky and people can easily fool themselves with it(probably with their own bias), when with magic or other paths your results are harder to see/notice or take longer?

Even for young me back then it all seemed so...awful.Everyone were more worried about building and safe keeping their "reputation" than properly teaching or learning.
The amount of time they spent bragging and talking about life was way more than talking about the subject of their community.

But that's my two cents, what you folks think about this?

I looked up the term "Psionics" on DuckDuckGo, and it appears to me that it is heavily related to science fiction stories and role playing games like Shadowrun that mix in elements of fantasy. Having played the Shadowrun: Dragonfall video game myself, I see the appeal. You can be a shaman with special cyber implants that enhance your abilities, and then see how well it handles combat against various types of enemies. I don't know about the Reddit communities, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that many of the posters are LARPing.

I used "psionics" because that was the term most communities used back then, but in truth they meant "psychic".

And yes, in the end to me they all seemed like kids playing a RPG through those forums.Though I think most were either teenagers or young adults.
Definitely not the environment one needs to develop themselves properly.I wonder how many even got screwed due to believing in the lies and delusions of themselves and the rest.

Thankfully, occult/magic-focused communities seem to be a more serious both in content and with spreading the knowledge/teaching.

What's the difference between a psychic and a LARPer? Maybe the LARPer tends to get upset if you question his 'abilities'?

Having worked construction, I can say that grown men of any age are prone to telling exaggerated tales and participating in one-upmanship with anyone who'll play along.

I can't with reddit anymore. I'm not going to make a 3rd account.

Got banned from r/satanism for pointing out that several former and current top ranking members of the Church of Satan are Neo Nazis.

Got banned from r/LeftHandPath for defending the Order of Nine Angles. I pointed out and provided evidence that the O9a sees far right activism as an insight role. That there's nothing Neo Nazi about the O9a. And anyone who believes that's the case hasn't done their homework.

Got banned from r/thesatanictemple for sharing a recording of Lucien Greeves antisemitic rant about the Jews when he was discussing the book Might is Right. I guess they didn't like the fact that their organization is being run by a Racist who hates the Jews.

Got banned from r/esotericsatanism for more o9a nonsense. Posted a picture out of Feond that says far left activism is an insight role. I proceeded to ask the question "by reddit logic if the O9A infiltrated the left does that make the whole entire left nazis?''

Got banned from r/spirituality, r/soulnexus, r/empath, r/vegan, for posting Savitri Devi quotes about being more empathetic towards animals. The reason was she's a Nazi Spy.

Got banned by r/politics, r/politicalhumor for defending Trump and Tucker Carlson

Got banned by r/conservative, r/thebidenshitshow, r/selfawarewolves for defending transexuals and socialism

Got banned by r/truthoffmychest and r/vent for pointing out that lesbians who don't consider transwomen women use the same talking points as far right bigots when they make their arguments against transwomen. Therefore, they can't fully support the left and they would be better off voting republican.

There's more but you get the point. I got banned for similar nonsense on twitter and facebook as well. I'm surprised youtube doesn't ban me. It's like there's no point when it comes to the internet nowadays. I used to use the chans but it's so obvious that it's run by glowies that I don't even bother anymore.

A psychic is someone with real ESP/mind abilities(clairvoyance, remote viewing, telekinesis, etc.), but due to the history of scammers claiming to be psychic it is a label that is somewhat tainted.

A LARPer is anyone playing RPG in real life and pretending that it is real life. When it comes to making claims through the internet, it can be the people claiming to be able to do supernatural/paranormal feats but with nothing to show for it, and they do it constantly. Most likely they're people living in self-denial(of their reality) and delusion.

Having worked construction, I can say that grown men of any age are prone to telling exaggerated tales and participating in one-upmanship with anyone who'll play along.
Ironically I don't have an issue with people telling tales, but the problem with LARPers in such sites is that they end up making the minds of young people(or even of others with issues of their own) and input into them outrageous ideas of how "x ability should work" or "what one has to do to be avle to do x" and this in itself causes a lot of trouble.

Aside the constant disinformation.

Got banned by r/politics, r/politicalhumor for defending Trump
They shouldn't ban people based on their political views(if the subreddit is said to be neutral) but...Trump?

Got banned by r/conservative, r/thebidenshitshow, r/selfawarewolves for defending transexuals and socialism
First time I've seen someone that supports Trump and isn't against trans people or socialism.Usually those don't tend to walk hand in hand.

Got banned by r/truthoffmychest
I think I got banned there once just because I was literaly telling a "truth off my chest" but maybe my brand of truth wasn't the one accepted.Which is weird due to the name of the subreddit. They seem very happy to ban anyone for no reason, but usually it seems that you can be banned just for participating in other subs.

It is weird just how easy it is to get banned when you tell the truth, but those that spread lies usually are left alone until it gets someone's attention. How odd.
