It varies from practice to practice. Also, maybe more important, it varies depending on the use of the object.
Good question. In my example, I have a dragon ring that I wear all the time. It's an irony, it is too big for my fingers so i wear it on my neck as a pendant, but I keep it with me as a reminder and other use I won't share. Then I have a vampiric rosary I wear on myself and use it for daily praying. These things can be enchanted and they gain more and more energy as you use them. You don't have to worry about them being contaminated if you keep adding to their energy daily or even multiple times of the day. (though getting them dirty in the mud is not pleasant, better not doing that)
Then there are objects that you use only on rituals and those need special care. You enchant or activate them, then you use them only for their intended purpose. I have huge prayer shawl that I use for meditations... and also as blanket for keeping myself warm when resting, but for nothing else. With jewelry used only for rituals, it should be out only during ritual time and outside of that it should be hidden away and covered to protect it energetically.
when it comes to specific enchantment, for that you would have to be specific, but this should outline the most basic info.
