Does anyone understand what Jacobus Swartz means by 'circle' when he describes how to do the banners in light at the beginning of Immdiate magic I ?

I cant make sense of how he reconciles the 'patterns' of drawing of light with what he later describes as 'circles' ... I was hoping somebody else was doing it or had had instructions from him about how to do this.
