Does Aurum Solis belong to the Golden Dawn? What is the relationship between its magical system and Greek polytheism?

I don't know anyone that could go through the source material of AS and think they just made it up for books. Its clearly order documents laid out into the Magical Philosophy books. It is much better organized, straight forward and less nuerotic than GD stuff.

A lot of the GD stuff seems like they’re just trying to make everything fit into this unified system even though they’re from different traditions, cultures, time periods, etc. Slap the tree of life on it and make it fit, whether it does or not.

I bought planetary magic by denning and phillips and even though I don’t know anything about their group beyond what’s in the book, it definitely seems like a coherent system and like it would work. Haven’t tried it myself yet though.

The thing is a lot of these traditions are interconnected. For instance Planetary Magick sources like the Arabic Picatrix. I do agree that the Golden Dawn kind of smashed everything together in an improper way sometimes. Aurum Solis stuff is more stripped down with a Theurgic focus. The Magical Philosophy volume 1 is the best intro to their work.
