I don't know how exact is the quote I remember from Crichton's Eaters of the dead about Ibn Fadlan travelling to Norse lands... But might be honest enough.
Fadlan: Is your wife loyal to you?
Norse man: I'm not home and she's not dead.
Unfortunately I don't know beyond this... but there are tales speaking of marriages, but also of lovers... Honor and betrayal... Even Odinn had his wife cheating with 4 dwarves. Though how it was going in practical life... dunno.
