Well, great googly-moogly!

The algorithm just rolled this video as I was sitting to do some work.

I saw this just after talking about Jason Black's childhood trauma (link to thread below)- so it’s just a little a bit eerie that this guy is talking about how people project their parental trauma onto their experience with daimons.

I really started the video fully expecting either some fear-based New Age hysteria, true-believer dark fluff, or more diabolist pagan explanationism - but this is shockingly close to my own experiences and overlaps much with my current view and intellectual framework.

Like, WTF? I really wondered for a second if he's been reading my notes here on WF? More likely it's just that time for the core ideas to come around.

To add to this, the daimons sometimes say they are beings left over from the primordial darkness - which he mentions here - and I sort half believe them, but I never take anything anyone says totally at face value.

Yes, I have shockingly found they will assist you in your spiritual evolution.

My early approach was far more Trad Cath (accompanied by my very secular, modernist brain) , than my current take which I half-jokingly call Daimonic Idealism.

I have found they act like Orphic-Neoplatonic Wrathful Buddhas and burn the crap off your soul, and will even heal you and give you powers. But I am also not exactly sure how to trigger that level of immersion, and entanglement so can only talk about what I did and how I approached the practice overall.

One quibble:

Not all demons are dissolvers and removers of attachment. Some appear to inflame a love of physical reality (the Passions) and immersion in it, but probably in a effort to help you see it.

As always, your mileage may vary.

Interesting take. I mostly agree with the general direction of what he is saying, or at least parts of it overlap with some of my own experience.

What makes my teeth itch is the confidence of the framing. There is a huge difference between saying, “This is what I have encountered,” and saying, “This is what demons actually are.” That line matters to me, especially in spirit work, because personal experience can be profound without automatically becoming universal law.

And no, I won’t be signing up for his Patreon, buying merch, books, stick-on temporary tattoos, or whatever the hell else is on the altar of the algorithm. Because make no mistake, he is selling. That part stinks to me. It starts to smell less like testimony and more like a spiritual sales funnel, and that is exactly where my trust starts backing out of the room. But thats just me. I guess this is exactly why I think personal experience is better than books, or YT videos.

The dude might be super cool, super smart, super experienced, I have no clue. So for clarity, I am not shitting on him personally, just the absolutism and the sales bullshit.

I also like your quibble @MorganBlack its reasonable.
