The only series I've been a fan of and watched rather much was Friends, it's still pleasant to watch even though I grew out of it in the last 8 years.

Just started watching and almost finished the first season of Legion(2017 -2019) and this show is great. The psychological storytelling approach to the subject of psions is on point. Thought provoking.

I was a small kid when I first saw it, later watched everything. Allo allo, about 84 85 episodes. Old classic with some nice twisted humor. The name might not ring a bell but this clip could. Maybe somebody here watched it.

Gets even better in the second season.
Reminded me of a few other faves-

The Good Place. Which was released around the same time as Legion.
and
Twin Peaks

"Set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution by cutting a deal with the government to fight for the country"

Given that repulsive summary it doesn't seem that surprising.

At first glance it appears to be straight jingoism with a premise of submission to violent persecution. Every aspect of the show a thin veneer to support that. Which immediately turns off anyone who doesn't want to watch recruitment propaganda with those ideals. But it's possible to see that there might be some that like it, and maybe more to the show itself.

When looking for fan pages to get some idea about who the show appealed to just now searches showed the subreddit was permabanned. lol Have no idea what that was about, but it's fun to imagine.

What made it one of your favourite shows?

Honestly because it was an alternate universe where there was a dominant society that was matriarchal and openly embraced several types of Western/European witchcraft (albeit at a superficial and fantastical level) that address several current social issues including forced conscription, discrimination/oppression of the marginalized, and the problematic nature of not reviewing systemic leadership at a CW young adult series level.

I mean, people like Buffy and Supernatural so not sure why you're being so oppositional towards me lol. You yourself like Agatha All Along and WandaVision, which share a lot of the same elements!

Y'all already hit up everything I was going to mention. Glad to see I'm in good company.

I mean, people like Buffy and Supernatural

I somehow hadn't ever heard of Motherland - it basically sounds like someone read the comic of Buffy Season 8 and ran with the idea. IIRC, all the slayers ended up working with the military at some level since there were essentially a crop of global super soldiers (or something like that). That or the dark version of Jim Channon's First Earth Battalion idea. Seems like an interesting concept, though obviously TV being TV, all magical abilities have to be turned up to 11.

Okay, favourite TV shows. The Walking Dead. I watched the Halloween night premiere on October 31, 2010. Thought it was tremendous. But here's the thing: I lived in a very rural area at the time. And I smoked. (Over ten years without one now) After that episode, I needed a cigarette, but I was genuinely afraid to go on my front porch. So I turned on the light. Looked left through the door window. Looked right. Unlocked the deadbolt, stepped out carefully. Smoked that cigarette in about four drags. Went back inside. No shame. LOL.

After TWD would be Dexter. And I love the new incarnation (Dexter: Resurrection). I can't wait for season 2!
