For the writers/authors here, any recommendatins of a fiction publisher?

Sort of a weird question, but it seems like we have enough authors around here to bother asking.

I'm curious if anyone has worked with a good US-based publisher that doesn't mind some woo-woo fiction. I have some friends QC reading a fun little novel right now that I think isn't too bad. I'd rather not be person number 895487948794890463 that self-published a novel about a vampires and magic and got nothing from it other than a full-time job doing self-promotion to sell 4 copies for $5 each. It's no Tolkien, it's better suited to being a 90-minute movie you watch on a Tuesday night than anything. But that's sort of what it was always supposed to be, a fun, quick read.

Anyway, just thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I do not support Amazon...

but maybe Lulu might be your choice? I definitely consider Lulu for my planned vampiric books, the advantage is that Lulu prints on demand (what is paid, that goes printed, favorite approach in modern publishing world)... There are also online publishers for e-books that are alternatives to Amazon which can spread your book world-wide.

One thing I've learned is that you can find an actual publisher and still have to do all the promotion yourself.

I went with Amazon purely because they also make it easier for you to advertise. Even after I switched off the adverts (after a few years they started to cost more than they made) I still get some sales every month. I also signed up for Draft2Digital, who will get your ebook version into all the other major online shops (Apple, Barnes and Noble, whichever ones you want to sign up to)

This is great advice, and it seems like there's a whole universe of options out there. At this point I'm going to get some beta reader feedback and then maybe take a brief rejection tour of publishers before I try the self-publishing route. Though, knowing I'll likely end up there anyway helps save me a step and some time. Lulu seems interesting, and the Draft2Digital also seems promising. Thanks again!
