I agree with needing results based magick at first, but the older I get and I have everything I need in the material world, my magick is more for some kind of 'communion' or evolution, or 'raising of frequencies.' now. I feel the desire to reach out farther into the cosmos and en-light-en myself more than say 'hey I need a girlfriend or wife or $500'
You get to a point where you 'are' the magick if even to a small degree, just by learning how to go with the Flow.
I think.
The Universe can stamp you down at any time so I am thankful I am being provided for with a modest income and small family of wife and cat and loving friends. The positive thanks-based vibration will get you things over a victim or angry controlling vibration any day.

Right! Spiritualism is still going strong in the Caribbean, Latin, Central, and South American traditions and it core to many of the techniques there.

My hougan introduced to Alan Kardec , who at a time was mostly ignored in modern occulture. When he first called me a "materializing medium" it made little ense, but I later saw it was pretty good way of looking grimoric evocation.

I suspect it died out among Anglos in the time periods after the two World Wars. Europeans and white Americans really wanted to escape the horrors of the Old World and be moderns. Anglicanism got chunked along with Catholicism, spiritualism, magic, and a whole cadre of other "superstitions."

New Age trance channeling owes a lot to Spiritualism . It goes wrong so often so that am not a fan of people over-relying on it, but among new religious cultured that refuses to engage with the Western Magic Tradition , it's hard to make any suggestions there, and I don't like being a killjoy.

this should probably be a pinned comment right here. 1,000% agree, at least for the practitioner. Everyone i know who is an actual practitioner, their life reflects it. They might have a modest house or job, a trusty old vehicle, reasonably good health, etc. They also are like you, just doing their thing. Then i meet those ones who are talking about how much magical power they have, how awesome they are, how they come from some mystical lineage, how they’re constantly ready to destroy everyone, etc. Meanwhile their lives are an absolute train wreck of a dumpster fire of catastrophic failures. They struggle from one crisis to another, have no shekels, nonstop relationship drama and toxicity, no peace in their own life, just a hot mess as the saying goes.

it seems to me that the real practioners are naturally more in tune with the, for lack of a better word, the vibes of the universe. And when you are in harmony with the world your life will be better. Reminds me of the saying about not getting what you want but wanting what you have, or wanting less.

There is a reason that these powerful words like gnosis, Dao, or self-individuation exist but can't really be explained.
They have to be experienced.

It is easy to slip 'off the train' but if you keep at it, humbly and positively, your life will reflect.
That's what alchemy is all about.

It won't be perfect, we are in 'Saturn's Cube' after all, so we will have plenty of pain . But it's how we learn. It's all about how we view the experience.

Good stuff. Yeah, at my Gen-X advanced age (LOL) I am more interested in healing others, and kindness.

But for most of life, there is a place for this "being in the world." I got good at magic (by which I mean sorcery, not mystical Oneness) as the meanest of the mean goetic assassins surviving in a psychopathic corporate world.

I would not be the magician I am today if I hadn't been called to outright gank a pretty endless stream of outright psychopaths at all levels of the dystopia of the entertainment industries - many of whom were attacking my wife. From a more mystical manifestation viewpoint, sure, that was "like, just her reality, man" - which is also true - but also, I really didn't care. To hell with them all.

I do try to practice forbearance. I only destroyed one person whom I personally hated: an "untouchable" exec game producer I loathed because he made the lives of everyone on my team horrible and would throw us under the bus with corporate. I made sure he couldn't get hired for a decade, and could not do any more damage - until my wife begged me to release him from my ire. He got a job - no doubt making more people's lives a living hell wherever he went - a few months after I released the restraining daimon.

Oh, about the stages of life...

Ptolemy in his 2nd-century treatise, the Tetrabiblos, and following the Chaldean Order of the planets, gives us progressive (and I'd say cumulative) stages of human life. .(Don't quote me on the exact ages here) .

Ages 0 to 4 are ruled by the Moon - for growth, nourishment, and physical maturation.
Ages 22 to 41are ruled by the Sun - the prime of life and youth, where you learn authority, purpose, and the mastery of one's 'small-s' self.
Ages 41 to 56 are ruled by Mars - mature adulthood with conflict, hardship, and severe effort.
Ages 56 to 68 are ruled by Jupiter, - bringing wisdom, counsel, and detachment.

Still in Mars here, but I can see Jupiter ahead.

But maybe some us are fast learners, on different paths, and are maybe just a tad ahead of shedule

Yeah I guess I am in the 3rd stage already too. I am 43 now, that's interesting cuz 2 years ago plus a tiny bit, is when i finally stopped pretending i was in my 20s and buckled up on a lot of things. Interesting.
One of my most useful material magickal things (in my opinion ) I did was about 14 years ago I put an egregore onto one of my last CO's in the Army to get an honourable discharge. There was a really weird scene in his office where he was dropping shit and shaking and it was not like him at all. I didn't open my mouth but I was curious as hell to ask him things. lol

About Francis King books he is one of those 'interesting characters' that populated the book and occult world from like the 60s to the 90s. 9/11 really changed a lot of shit for the boring.
Then COVID kinda chopped off the remainder. Now it's supremely hard to find anything new that is 'good.'
