I have often been curious about the rate of divination and if there is any benefit or drawback of frequent divinations. Certain characters like 2face/Harvey Dent (batman) or Anton (no country for old men) use this "Divination" of a coin in frequent, yes or no situations.

My question is how much time and energy goes into creating an accurate divination?

My personal theories are conflicted throughout a spectrum of ideas; the more you use divination for small decisions the more your path diverges and obscures, whereas using divination for major turning points will give a clearer path towards the divine Will. There's also the possibility of not preparing the tools or yourself properly, having maligned spirits mettle in your reading, being guided by desire rather than divine influence, not relying on personal morals/intuition, etc. I also can see the benefits of practicing on small aspects in order to prepare for the "more important" life changers and having a reinforcement in the everyday paths that lay before us.

I am still very early into my path and have nothing but intuition and some basic knowledge to go on, any book recs or guidance appreciated!

Well, I am also an intuitive reader, although I have been doing readings for a few years. In my case, perhaps because I am also a sensitive empath, I cannot read for long for a client(s); I start to feel drained and weak... I have used this to be more mindful of the energy I let slide while I read, so in my case, when I start feeling headaches, I know it's time to stop, at least for the moment. I may return after, but in that moment I must stop; otherwise, it will cost me. I have also been more aware of my spiritual team, so if I hear them or feel a sign from them to withdraw, I do it. If I may, when you are performing divination, do you feel shivers or light static in your arms? Or have the feeling that someone is calling you? Well... This might be your guides or deities giving you a sign. Try to be more conscious of the feelings and sensations you experience during your readings; they will help you with the energy aspect of your craft.

As for the reading, well, feel free to take or not take this advice, but as an intuitive reader, I do not memorise meanings and symbols behind each card (in Tarot); for me, it is the image itself that gives me the message. I make my spread, and looking at the cards, I begin to see patterns, connections between them, so the message is clear to me. I mention in another post to another fellow practicner that often the cards do not give a direct answer to the client question, sometimes, they are a channel for which our clients spiritual team tries to communicate what they need to hear, a message they had been relantsly trying to pass on, which for a beginner may seem like you had been given a wrong reading, when in truth, you had receive the message they need (or if you are reading to yourself, that you need). However, this is my interpretation and how I do my craft; feel free to adopt or not. Hope that I manage to help you.

Usually doing too many is counterproductive, some practitioners seem to get bogged down in a plethora of readings. Do them more often when learning the system but after that do them more infrequently and just trust the answer you got and in yourself to handle it.

I haven't felt any amount of energy drain while asking for guidance but I also don't take long in my asking. I also don't use traditional tarot or any "magical" tools. All of my work is done inside the self or with ordinary objects like leaves and rainwater. More often than that I find myself asking for guidance in the form of good to bad scale ("is it a good idea to drink tonight?"wind blows object quickly to the left). The other thing I find myself falling into the habit of immediate divination, what will happen in the next 24 hours, rather than large scale monthly or yearly alignments. It would be great to find more tried and true methods of personal divination and I know there are unlimited guides on the forums.

It sounds like you do a lot of this work, while maybe not for yourself. Would you take umbrage with a client coming back two times a week, every week for a year? At what point do you need to say relax and let life happen and at what point does the "spirit team" get fuzzy or irritated with constant bugging? Do they like the company?

Thanks! Thats close to what I've been doing on an irregular basis. I've found my intuition is usually strong enough to find answer without needing to clarify until I run into an answer I don't like. Is it wrong to ask the same question multiple times to clarify the response? It seems like doubt or disobedience to me so I try not to however tempting.

Interesting... So your method is more similar to those who use a pendulum for divination; however, your pendulum is nature itself. Well, it certainly feels less draining because it's just you, nature, and your spiritual team. Although it may still be less draining, I am sure there are signs they leave you to let you know when there is enough time for questions, or if they do not wish to answer your questions, no?

As for your question, yes, it can be demanding, but with time you learn to stand your ground. If clients are regular, they become more aware of your abilities, so it becomes easier to say that one must stop the reading. As for spacing between visits with the clients, it depends, but personally I would not recommend reading more than once a week with the same client. And if you have multiple regular clients, then no more than twice per month. As for the rest, well, I am pretty aware nowadays of my limitations, so I know when I must stop. Sometimes I can do multiple readings throughout the week, and sometimes one reading is enough to make me pull the brakes. It all depends on the impact the reading has on me and how deep I have to go to bring the information my client needs; in my case, everything that requires me to cross the bridge between the material world and the astral/spiritual world will always drain me.

It's really a matter of who or what is answering your questions more than frequency. If you ask out of unwillingness to think about your own problems then sloth is what will dictate what you divine, for example.

It's not that I have an unresponsiveness to my questions, the coin still flips and the leaf still moves but the presence is gone. My eyes unfocus and I can feel the ground again. This happens mid-question or right after, while the divining is happening. I can either ask again or understand this is not an answer I get to know. Usually I move on to the next ask but if it happens multiple times in a row the asking is over.

I've never had anything bad occur after a long questioning (that I've correlated) or spirits which are angry, I've felt a lack of presence for days following when I've asked for guidance too often and started cleansing rituals at the same time. I don't think I was giving enough thanks for the effort they put in. Maybe that's the lack/drain of energy people say? I always equate it to a physical exhaustion like shoveling snow for an hour but "energy loss" in the way that "something is missing" has definitely occurred.

I've had a great deal to say on the subject over the last nine years of blogging. My current thinking is that divination should be used in combination with more conventional decision-making approaches. In other words, first consider how you would solve a problem without divination, then add it to the mix for extra insight. In many cases that's what happens in professional situations anyway; the seeker has reached an impasse and turns to a diviner for further guidance. I don't use it for minor issues unless I'm testing a new technique, and I'm always mentally and emotionally energized rather than drained by multiple sessions (for example, when reading at a "psychic" fair). Mostly, though, when not divining for others I bring it to bear on my own major life issues; otherwise, I study, experiment and write about my experiences with it in both practical and philosophical ways.

I think this correlates to what Nembra said. The best guidance will be given only after a thorough examination within yourself. Maybe rather than skipping to a divination for external guidance, meditation and inward thoughts will provide a more solid foundation and likely lead to better questions. I'm curious the differences between the 'inner voice' and what can show in a reading. The idea that thoughts are entities which choose their conductor has struck me as very similar to 'the spirit' guiding which cards are chosen.

I won't touch that one since I'm not convinced intuition, with its vulnerability to subjective bias, is a reliable way to interpret the tarot cards in an objective manner. Not everyone who consults the tarot is skilled in meditation or is of a contemplative mind, so the best approach with them is to "just read the cards" in a literal way. I've also written a large number of decidedly skeptical essays on that subject.

What I meant to express was the parallels between intuition and tarot, not using intuition as tarot interpretation. Although I believe in the mind and its outward expression in the world, when using a prearranged set of rules like tarot it would be best to follow the guidelines and little booklets that come with the deck.

As someone who is novice in tarot, mediation, divination, interpretation, ritual and on and on, I have heard a voice that is not my own. I've also felt the lack of energy after banishing. I've had unknown dreams show me what is needed only after a week of thought. I've also had a single dramatic tarot reading that would ever so perfectly outline the struggle I'm going through at the specific moment. All of these can be explained by the 'positive feedback' or whatever confirmation bias skeptics would like to use, it doesn't make them less powerful.

It also requires discernment to realize the person is or is not able to use intuition. If mediation is not right for them, if tarot is not right for them. Someone who is deeply in tune with their inner signal could likely find the same results of tarot without needing a draw simply because their guide has already given it to them. I am not immediately one of those, I will stick to the book and charge my spiritual battery for the big fights

Well-said. I often think that diviners who are "dialed in to the right frequency" won't need props like tarot cards. But then we're entering the purely psychic territory of mind-reading, and tarot readers who work that way aren't reading the cards at all, just doing "psychism with props." I sometimes bin it under "the theater of tarot" as performance art.
