Hi guest! As you can see, the new Wizard Forums has been revived, and we are glad to have you visiting our site! However, it would be really helpful, both to you and us, if you registered on our website! Registering allows you to see all posts, and make posts yourself, which would be great if you could share your knowledge and opinions with us! You could also make posts to ask questions!
Could someone explain the difference between Geomancy and Astrology? It seems the two overlap.
Actually, if you could also explain Geomancy how-to, that would be great.
The biggest common factor, but one that originally threw me was the square chart.
I think I see the sixteen figures are the twelve zodiac signs and the four elements?
That's just numerology which is shared between many different branches of magick not limited to: Astrology, Geomancy, Sigil magick, Demonolatry, Angelic magick etc.
What do you mean? Geomancy focuses on divination/magick using the Earth. Astrology focuses on divination/magick using the stars/planets...

interpretations. Geomancy requires the geomancer to create sixteen lines of points or marks without counting, creating sixteen random numbers. Without taking note of the number of points made, the geomancer provides the
needed for most forms of divination. Once the lines are produced, the geomancer marks off the points two by two until either one or two points remain in the line; mathematically, this is the same as producing two dots if the number is even or one dot if the number is odd. Taking these leftover points in groups of four, they form the first four
, and form the basis for the generation of the remaining figures. Once this is done, the "inspired" portion of the geomantic reading is done; what remains is
calculation which will lead to the construction of Two Mothers and then Two Daughters or Two Nices or Two Withneses. From these classes will finally end up to form mathematically, using the same addition process, the Judge, is formed. A sixteenth figure, the Reconciler is also generated by adding the Judge and the First Mother will form the final answer to the question.
In each chart of Geomancy, if all sixteen figures are observed (the four Mothers, the four Daughters, the four Nieces, the Witnesses, Judge, and Reconciler), at least two of the figures must be the same. As the Reconciler is usually termed an optional figure, 16 combinations of Mother figures can yield a chart where the Mothers, Daughters, Nieces, Witnesses, and Judge are all unique. Sounds complicated but the method is not. You have to practice and to know the values of all the geomanical figures, when you have to analyze the answer you get from the spirit of Geomancy.
since the 18th century based in its broadest sense, with meaning of searching the divinatory meaning with the help of the position of the planets in the sky.
With this I hope it helped you with a bit of understanding.
If you would like to know more about Geomancy I recommend The Art and Practice of Geomancy by John Michael Greer.
Christopher Warnock has a software on Geomancy called GEOMANTICON on his website you can order for $29.95, here:
Works best with yes/no questions. Just find a way to make a random number of marks to come up with 16 numbers (only really matters if each number is odd or even). Then follow the instructions to build the shield chart. The final one is your judge and gives you your answer. The rest of the shield chart and all of the house chart (has more of an astrology feel to it) are just extra details that have to be considered in light of the answer (the judge).
ex: if your first four totals are 12, 17, 9, 28 all that matters is that they are even (ll), odd (l), odd (l), even (ll).
so your first is:
ll
l
l
ll
Which is the figure Conjunctio
Make enough marks to generate 4 figures (4x4=16). Then everything is created using those first 4 figures and simple adding.
Zodiac, Elements, Planets, rules of thumbs, etc are a whole bigger rabbit hole. Learn the basics first. 1) how to build a shield chart 2) what each figure is/means 3) how to read a shield chart.

Aquisitio and Amissio relate to notions of obtaining, losing, acquiring, or missing some object. You can dress it up however you want or arrive at it by different means (inventing, destroying, getting something on your own, getting someone to get rid of something for you, etc.), but at the end of the day, you either have something or you don’t.
Carcer and Coniunctio relate to notions of being isolated, conjoined, restricted, freed, cut off, or brought into some process. You either have freedom and choices, or you don’t.
Fortuna Maior and Fortuna Minor relate to notions of independence or dependence. You either can do something on your own, or you can’t; you either need outside help or resources not normally available to you, or you don’t.
Populus and Via relate to notions of passivity, activity, inertia, liveliness, stagnation, passion, multitude, or solitude. There is either nothing going on, or there is something going on; things either change or they don’t.
This.
Sorry had to go find it. This is from digital ambler on the 8 figures that can be a judge (mathematically only 8 of the 16 can end up in the judge position).
Digital ambler site is a dude who spends more time thinking about geomancy than anyone probably should.

Greer’s books are good places to start.
