Go to method to uncrossing/cleansing?

Hi all,

Inquiring as to what is your preferred method for uncrossing and cleansing yourself and space? I typically resort to candle work but and seeking some alternatives when I don’t have all my tools with me. Also, what are your go to herbs/oils. Thanks so much!

Probably just bornless ritual. I know in the more witchcraft/hoodoo traditions they have uncrossing candles and uncrossing oil aswell as uncrossing baths, but I don't know that much about that stuff yet. Barely getting into it. I think Michael is probably the best in terms of general protection though.

I find oils and herbs help with cleansing and 'cutting' hexes, stagnant energies etc.
Sharp citrus scents like lemon, purifying pine, cedar and common garden sage, hyssop, juniper as oils or fresh/dried herbs. Use in spiritual baths, or washes, or burn as cleansing smoke.
Back it up with fortifying herbs such as rosemary, mugwort, rowan to strengthen and ward.
Folk magic has a lot of cleansing/uncrossing and warding tricks.

Oh, in a pinch, if you don't have tools etc near to hand, then many perfumes and colognes can be used. I use 4711 cologne to cleanse, and American friends often use Florida water. This is because they contain essential oils (check whether they're synthetic or natural scents)

Without going into elaborate detail about the whole process, I shapeshift into a snake and ceremoniously shed my skin. The shed skin acts as a powerful deception, misdirecting the malefic forces to attach themselves to the cast off form instead of my new one. I mean that I do this physically, by first putting myself into a hypnotic trance by way of singing, and then after I have gone into this trance, I can perceive myself shrinking down, laying out on my belly, stretching out, becoming a snake, and finding something nearby to use to help me shed my skin, before I then shift back into my normal form and come out of the trance. The most simple and direct technique is to visualize a light coming down from heaven, forming a silver ball of light above you. Take a deep breath and see it moving to your throat, then your chest, your belly and in the ground beneath you. Do this again in reverse but with a golden light.

Center that light in your chest and see it glowing and repulsing any bad energy or spirit.

You can also see it turning into a green light (attraction color) that is going to act as a magnet for bad energies. Once you accumulate a lot of negs, push that ball deep in the ground until it reach a green cube.

A little more advance technique is about calling the quarters, then a gardian from each one. As you call the light like the exercice above, see it creating an endless cross that goes from your heart in four direction. Imagine that light goes very far and bring all nasties and negs with it.

I'll echo the Headless Rite. It's an excellent means of getting all the shit off of you.

I'll also do floor washes and spiritual baths. Essential oils (cedar, frankincense), epsom salts, rosemary, hyssop, rue, Florida Water all make good ingredients for either baths or washes. Pine sol is an excellent and widely available addition to floor washes.

Devotional work can also have an uncrossing effect in my experience, especially worship/work with any deity that governs thresholds and crossroads (Hekate, Hermes) or those who can destroy obstacles in your way (I've experienced Lilith and Shiva as both being excellent for destroying blockages).

Sage is good (common sage, not endangered white sage) but unless a practitioner is indigenous American and using it ritually, it's not smudging. Smoking, censing, staining etc yes, but smudging is a cultural & spiritual practice that indigenous folk were banned from doing until relatively recently.

Kind of funny to hear it was banned, I never heard that but it dont surprise me, just trying to figure out how you outlaw incense, kind of like outlaw sweeping the floor or washing the dishes

Yeah, it does sound insane. But then gov outlawing plants (weed etc) is crazy too!
I think indigenous cultural practices were outlawed in the 19th century? Only repealed in the 1970s?

It's less about 'race' and identity and more about being in a cultural or community context where 'smudging' makes sense as a descriptor. Words mean things and extracting terms for specific ritual practices and generalizing them does damage to the meaning of the word and its unique place within the culture that developed the rites its used to describe.

I think this would be just like someone saying you can't perform "uncrossing" unless you're African American, because the word originated from hoodoo traditions. Virtue signaling over some make believe cultural appropriation nobody has any business being upset over is a huge waste of everyone's time. Burning herbs with the intention of dispelling negativity, purifying and cleansing a place/person is smudging, and saying so does nothing to damage the word or its place within its culture. That would be like saying one tribe's use of the word damages another tribes use of the word because their ceremonies are entirely different.

Apart from the traditional sorts of herbal purification baths, I consecrate my shower head and treat the flowing water of a shower like a river that washes everything away. Treating every bath/shower like a mini ritual purification is very useful. Something as quick and as simple as washing hands with this in mind can have the same effect, with enough practice.

I'll also echo the effect of the bornless/headless ritual, as well as the idea of symbolically shedding. I've done the latter before at various times by applying herbs and oils then washing them off in running water. That can be an extremely effective technique.
