Hi there,
I recently got into studying the occult and esoteric practices and adjacent topics, I can't say that I subscribe to any particular belief or standard but rather coming into this with a very open mind and seeing what "speaks" to me, of course offering appropriate adherence and respect to different cultural practices and "staying in my lane" so to speak.
The primary trigger for this affair was after receiving dreams of some events, apocalyptic in nature and also the deaths of people I know/knew of. I can't claim to have prophetic abilities but I can recognize there is an uncomfortable track record for dreaming about ominous events and then they come into fruition. The most recent being two days before several natural disasters occurred, dreaming about ominous storms with faces of terror, tsunamis of blood and a significant loss of life. Yes the omens are rather on the nose it seems, also I have no intention of fear mongering as we can easily understand that tragedy is a very normal part of life. However I do feel this is happening often enough that it may be worth it to explore so I can understand it better. So one could say I have a strong inclination towards divination due to that experience but I have an interest in exploring all kinds of things.
I have started looking at what texts to explore, I managed to look at the beginning of the texts and lectures of the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn by Israel Regardie as it appeared to be a decent foundation for understanding Tarot, Astrology ect. I stand to correction if you have a better suggestion. Ofcourse I am going off on assumption as to what may be appropriate by tracing the source material of content I found online and some of it claims to point back to the above mentioned order. I could be in over my head as I have witnessed the incredible size of the text and understand why it is affectionately referred to as "The Black Brick", but I really enjoy reading or studying dense text and I tend to not enjoy reading some more recent or modern, condensed, summarized texts as I can't help feel that I am losing crucial details form the original works and would like to make my own interpretations of the content before having the bias of others influence my thinking and then comparing notes and conclusions once I have enough confidence in my understanding. I am more than open to changing my mind when presented with new information, that said I have a knack for research and absorbing loads of information but I lack the appropriate guidance on what else I may consider to ensure this experience will be a valuable one.
I currently work in Higher Education in course design and the like and am compelled to design my own curriculum around this all, not to sell, but for my own personal use. I am a firm believer that once you know how learning works, you can learn just about anything. That said I can possibly contribute some direction in ideal learning pathways once I have a greater understanding of most of "it". Ofcourse this means I would greatly appreciate the input of my more learned peers here on what helped them learn and learn well. I have purchased a clump of notebooks, a pretty Tarot deck with a gorgeous gold foil finish (I know it'll wear out but that's the idea!) , and an unhealthy hyper-fixation on a new set of interests.
