No personal experience but you might find "Shadownomicon: Grimoire of the Shadow People" by D. H. Thorne interesting. It's part autobiography, part grimoire, but it does contain chapters on the Hat Man and the Tall Man. A lot of it may be UPG but the book is notable for its invocations of these beings which means that the author didn't happen upon them by accident but deliberately sought them out.

Yes, I have encountered Hat Man.

For context, it was 2007, and my Mum had passed away earlier that day. She was 85, and had dementia, so there were feelings of loss, obviously, but also a kind of relief that she was no longer in torment. It was now evening, the curtains were closed, the light was on, and I had sat down on the sofa and closed my eyes. It had been an exhausting day, emotionally and mentally, as there had been a lot to sort out, and it had been the early hours of the morning when I’d got the call that she’d died, so I was drained. The next I knew, I opened my eyes with a start (I’m assuming I’d dropped off to sleep, but if I did it can’t have been for long) and in front of me and slightly off to the left, was Hat Man.

His position in relation to me was interesting. I’ve had odd occasions when dream images have persisted upon waking and have appeared to be ‘in the room’ for a few seconds, but this wasn’t like that. I had to move my head to the left to look at him directly. Also, his orientation with regard to the room was odd. His body was straight in itself but he was at a slight angle, leaning forward and a little to his right, and his lower legs and feet couldn’t be seen as they were (presumably) beneath the floor line. It was as if his image was being projected into the room, but the ‘projectionist’ hadn’t lined him up with his surroundings.

He was a two-dimensional black silhouette, but I felt like I was receiving much more visual information about him, so he appeared like a cut-out figure but paradoxically with some depth (I find this aspect very difficult to describe). He appeared to be wearing a fedora-like hat, and either a cloak with a collar, or something like a trench-coat with wide shoulders, with the collar turned up. These observations were all based purely on his outline - there was no detail visible within the body.

He seemed to turn slightly to look back at me for a moment, then his figure diminished, maintaining perspective, still at that odd angle, as if he was walking away from me (or possibly gliding, I couldn’t tell, not being able to see his feet). Then suddenly he wasn’t there any more. He didn’t fade or dissipate, he just stopped being in the room. I hadn’t felt any fear, dread, or shock while this was taking place, but I did feel all of those emotions during what happened next.

I decided I had simply been hallucinating due to tiredness, and that I should go to bed and get some proper rest, so I got up, switched off the light in the living room, did the same in the kitchen, and made my way - in the dark - to my bedroom. Why I didn’t put the light on in the bedroom first, I don’t know. I suddenly had a sense that there was a presence behind me - one that was malevolent. I turned briefly and saw ‘something’ in the darkness moving towards me. What it was, I couldn’t really tell, but I didn't feel that it was Hat Man this time. The sense of dread and malice was overpowering, and I’m not ashamed to say I bolted for the bedroom and closed the door behind me.

And that was the end of it. The sense of a presence approaching, and the accompanying feeling of dread, subsided as soon as I shut the bedroom door. At this point I did switch on the bedroom light. There were no other manifestations (of which I was aware). I went to bed - eventually, it took me a while to relax - and I was so tired that I fell asleep immediately. To date, I’ve never seen Hat Man or anything like him again.

I asked my father about him, he told me a few times about a cloaked shadow man. He encountered him a few times in his life. My father told he is always scared and starts yelling at him. He stil cannot say if it was the same shadow man in all cases he saw him. Like peakflow said above, there where no details visible inside the body and dad was not able to see his feet. One thing dad always noticed that he gets it very cold just before seeing a shadow man and after the encounter he always was completely wet because of extreme sweating. I all cases he took temperature to be sure and he had no signs of a fever. ... For the rest dad didn't want to talk about this subject. He is sure that talking about it, brings bad luck.

Has anyone had any personal experiences with shadow people, the Hatman, or related entities?
Yes i have and i think i wrote here about it allready. A shadow kid — Several random occurances just in my house. First time it physically damaged my left eye with this blue light just like a laser. It was strange. The thing was mischevious, not really scary to me at all. This was last year but i recently i have not seen the thing anymore. It would commonly come around 2am — 3am. It would open drawers and doors — it would run on top of my house and outside it would run. It would run extremely fast and was able to scale my house in seconds which has a 3 story high roof that you need a 30 foot ladder to get up there. All it did was look to annoy me when i was reading or trying to enjoy something.

And i dont know if this is related to that shadow kid but i did one time see a apparition of a bust of a old man with a expressionless face with a blue hue to him in my mirror. This one was seen by 2 of my roomates in the past, so this is different than the shadow kid since i was the only one that seen that.

"I'm not sure what you mean by a 'shadow persona'—is it a type of spiritual entity, or a cultural symbol? If it's the former, there is a similar presence in my life. Through a ritual, I invited this being to serve as a guardian. It merges into my shadow, using it as a conduit to reach me, offering protection and guidance as I move forward."

I grew up pretty superstitious so we believed In stuff like that
When I was growing up on the reservation I seen something like such. I barely saw it but it opened my aunt's door and walked in and go downstairs. My aunt screamed at it to go away. I saw it peak up from downstairs. Then it opened the door and left. Also grew up around a lot of ghost stories from family members
