Hello! 2 months ago I had a sleep problem, I would be waking every night after only 5 hours of sleep, even though I was tired AF and I just couldn’t fall back asleep. However, I did not have problems falling asleep when going to sleep at night, that was fine, I only had problems falling BACK asleep after waking up prematurely after approximately 5 hours of sleep, that was the problem. But the first part of sleeping was good enough.
I decided to make a spell with Hypnos where I would enter the Theta-Gamma Sync gazing at his sigil and then visualizing me sleeping good and long every night. After the visualization, I said “Hypnos, destroy my insomnia permanently!”. The first few weeks, the spell went fine, I had learned the knowledge necessary to solve my original problem, that of waking up after 5 hours and not being able to fall back asleep… However, I feel like this original phrasing of asking Hypnos to destroy my insomnia created an unnecessary pressure to sleep each night. It’s like my brain focuses on “insomnia”, or focuses too much on sleeping. An unhealthy focus on “insomnia”.
Just after my original insomnia problems were solved, I had a few bad nights where I couldn’t sleep much or at all and I started associating the bed with stress, because of the new pressure of falling asleep each night. I would put myself in bed very tired and then my heart will start beating faster when trying to sleep and energy and adrenaline will start flowing through me! Even if I was chill a few moments ago.
So since then, this happens in the nights I am anxious about sleeping and that adrenaline just starts flowing through me and keeps me awake, even though I need sleep. For sure I should have used a phrasing to Hypnos like “Hypnos, make me sleep 8 hours every night” or “make me sleep profoundly every night”. I feel like my original phrasing “destroy my insomnia permanently” has created a sort of a war mindset, a sort of “enemy” pressure in my brain where there is high pressure to solve insomnia. But this very thing sends my body in fight or flight mode when trying to sleep, even though I am tired. It’s like my brain now associates the bed and sleeping with a hard task that needs to be fought and this very thing creates fear and anxiety when trying to fall asleep. Think of it as “performance anxiety”. While my original intent of making my sleep longer was achieved, this new surprise of not being able to fall asleep at all because of stress and anxiety is a new thing for me.
So please help me! How can I solve this thing?
I know that pharmaceutical stuff that calm the cortisol, like Trittico or Anxiar can make you solve the problem, but that is just a band-aid, if I stop them, the problem comes back. Plant supplements or magnesium only lower the cortisol, but I still experience the heart racing thing when trying to sleep on them.
The problem is that now, when I try to put myself in the bed and try to sleep, the heart starts beating faster and wakes me up from that process of falling asleep. It’s a short burst of energy because of the performance anxiety and that fucks up the process. This thing developed itself in some nights were I couldn’t sleep and I was laying wide awake in bed. What shall I do to solve this new problem?
Now don’t get me wrong, the racing heart isn’t that bad, it’s not very noticeable, but just enough to keep you awake when trying to fall asleep.
What does work is if I do auto-suggestion when trying to sleep, like “My body relaxes. My mind silences. I am falling into a deep sleep”. I notice my heart stops racing and it’s easier to sleep. So I am thinking a Chaos magick way would rewrite my now-racing mind, like Sigil Magick? What do you think? The point is to rewrite my mind because it was already rewritten by the unnecessary stress I created through the phrasing “Destroy my insomnia”
