How Do You Verify the Spirit in Goetic Work and Avoid Unwanted Entities?

For those who practice Goetia in a more traditional or grimoire-based way (personally I work mostly from older grimoires and methods closer to John R. King IV, not Crowley-based systems):

How do you personally verify that the spirit present is actually the intended one and not something else pretending or interfering?

Do you wait for specific signs, manifestations, consistency in responses, changes in atmosphere, etc. before proceeding? If those signs are absent, do you stop the operation and give the license to depart immediately, or continue carefully?

Also, what methods or safeguards have you found most effective for avoiding unwanted “guests” or misleading presences during operations?

I’m especially interested in practical experience rather than purely theoretical answers.

Hi! Thanks for your kind words. In my experience, when an entity tries to interfere with your process is because you are doing something against nature. For example, trying to heal a person that is supposed to endure some illness by the most divine law. They have no reason to interfere, unless you are taunting them to do it. If you are certain that some chaotic energy is distracting you, then, you should firmly ask them to leave. If they don't do it, ask the creator to intervene for you. "Abjuration" is the word we are looking for. Try composing a prayer, conjure, chant or etc. Where you explicitly ask them politely to leave in peace, while clearly warning them about the consequences of staying. It usually looks like this: And... I, your name, remind to every uninvited energy witnessing my actions, you will be punished by the light of god if you stay in this space. I, your name, remind you that if you don't want to get hurt by the light of god, you should leave at once. If you still feel something around you, then, picture a ray of light bathing the whole room and frying the idiots trying to interfere.

Raise your sacred space, consecrate it, use fumigation/incense/fire and consecrated water, and put up your defenses, a circle, watchtowers or guardians at the gates. Ask your patrons to watch over you or your operations.
In my opinion, only skilled magicians with some psychic powers to some extent (clairsentience, clairvoyance or clairaudience) will be able to discern between an imposter, an egregore, a dead or whatever.
If you feel you are being deceived or attacked, enter the void in meditation, visualise a circle, charge your subtle body, spin your chakras with symbolic colors, chants words of power, hold any object that empowers you, a dagger or a sword, be firm and kick it out.
