How to gather, cultivate and store energy without it escaping/emitting?

When doing the Middle Pillar, Qi Gong techniques such as Dragon Guards the Treasure from Fire Dragon Meridian Qi Gong, it (the energy gathered) seems to dissipate immediately, and visualization is usually stark darkness. Sometimes the tunnel of light appears, sometimes it does not during visualization.

I know depression apart from aphasia can cause visualization issues as well.

But its not just visualizing the energy, its as if its fit or retained for a second then drawn back out.
