In esoteric belief systems that incorporate past lives, can you be ahead of your life state?

Usually people end up getting into the occult and esoteric because they are some sort of "old soul" or have lived a fair amount of past lives.

I feel like I've lived a lack of past lives, in esoteric belief systems that incorporate past lives, does someone ever reach a stage of spiritual advancement that is incongruent with their life stage, and how common is it if it ever occurs? I know I have a lot more immaturity, but are their any benefits in Magick to not being old and grumpy.

I'm not trying to focus on my past lives anymore, but I'm just wondering if that can occur.

A follow up question, if I feel I lived a lot less lives than say my peers on the path, what are some things I need to be aware of to compensate? Like psychological barriers such as immaturity or more karma to shed that I need to be aware of?

Some are posted into the human race to assist. They have fewer incarnations here.

Those posted in, usually have as their first task learning to function well in human society

Another aspect to feeling fewer past lives is that traumatic lives may be blocked from recall.

I'm not set on any belief in particular, having 'lost my religion', then having gone through an atheist & materialist phase, and then rediscovering the occult. The Spiritists seem to have one of the more comforting viewpoints on the afterlife and reincarnation. At least many of their beliefs, based on Kardec's writings, seem plausible and relatable to beliefs of some religions. The issue is seemingly that the change of focus from one plane of existence to another causes a degree of amnesia, but the degree of amnesia is far more pronounced on the material plane.

Whether one is an "old soul" or not, it seems less relevant than the fact that one is in the here and now, so one makes the best of the situation in which one finds oneself. If that means, for example, that I choose a belief in an afterlife or reincarnation to make life seem more meaningful, then that's the way I prefer to go.

I definately don't function well in human society. I do feel it's my path to help others, but I do have a little bit of trouble with all the bureaucracy of everything. To get a social work degree you need to be in school for 6 years, and you can't be a full time student to receive subsidized or affordable housing so it takes more like 12 years and you can't manage to balance full time work and school.

That kind of explains my difficulity functioning, It makes me want to become a monk and escape from modern society.

I think this is wise. What is done is done and all you have to work with is this moment (and whatever cards you're holding in this moment).

I also think a clearer understanding will emerge if you move away from thinking yourself to be bound by linear time ("I'm alive now and I lived here in the past"). Instead, try to consider yourself to be at a point on a coil: you are moving upwards, in cycles, across the span of time. At the same time, descending in cycles is your Future Self, the being you will Become. That Future Self, which is the end product of the union between you and the daemon/HGA, is rushing to meet you in this moment.

I saw the spiral too. I think when you view being stuck in the cycle of incarnation as hell and it no longer serves you, you need to dismiss the concept of a serpent eating it's tail and being stuck in a loop for all eternity. What concept do you form? Time moving in a spiral, although it repeats, creation and destruction it still moves on till infinity. The end of the world is just another Genesis.

I prefer to think of the present right now. Don't worry about the future or the past, most of my illusions of my past lives are due to subconscious fears that I'm going to repeat it, but I need to focus on the present.

Not having a lot of past lives has nothing to do with your esoteric path. It only really matters if you want to recover knowledge from a specific past life and apply it in this one. Even people who have lived many past lives don’t automatically gain access to that past knowledge. So if you don’t feel called to connect with past lives, it doesn’t put you at any real advantage or disadvantage.

As someone who shares the idea of the past lives being a thing (and a way how our Spirit / higher Self "gather experience" in the world), I would suggest to look at it like this:

To my understanding, it's highly unlikely that your current self is literally your "first incarnation" or something 😁, since you would probably be much more invested into down-to-earth stuff in such case, rather than be interested in abstract philosophy/esoterics and spiritual questions.

However, regardless of how many lives you lived - naturally, one or another of them just has to become THE one when you willingly start to approach spirituality for the first time.

So, if you feel the spark, the curiosity, the need for answers - then it IS the right time now.

Your past lives (if you accept them as a concept in your worldview system) might be worth delving into for more answers and understanding (with certain practices, and better under a good tutor to avoid catching just illusory fantasies about yourself), and they could have been the reason you as a being/soul have come to the point you are currently at - but they don't define whether you are "eligible" to pursue knowledge and experience now.
They might become a helpful inner source of past knowledge, experience and skills, but this might manifest within the "current you", your personality, capacity, views and judgement in rather slow and subtle ways. Not necessarily like Neo's "I know kung fu" style in The Matrix. ;)

If you are afraid of "being immature in general", well, just try your best to act mature in a good way - reflect more on what are you doing and why, honestly ask and answer yourself about your true intentions in every situation, think before acting, and act responsibly. It applies both to esoteric practices and life in a broader sense.

P.S. Sorry for my English - even though I am quite confident with it, I am not a native speaker. :)
