I have been reflecting on the role of animal sacrifice as a magical operation within private forms of sorcery and witchcraft, particularly when the practitioner follows their own personal tradition or private cult without necessarily being formally connected to an established religion or initiatory lineage. In this context, sacrifice can be understood not merely as a religious offering, but as a deliberate magical operation, in which the animal’s life, blood, and physical substance are employed as means of establishing a relationship with spirits, feeding particular forces, effecting a transfer, or producing a magical result.
This raises a question about the nature and legitimacy of such an operation: does it depend upon some specific form of spiritual authorization or permission, or can it be performed by the practitioner through knowledge, technique, and the development of their own relationship with the forces involved? I would be interested to hear how you understand this question based on your own experience and perspective.
