Is "manifesting" doing magic?

Hi there,

I'm doing research on magic in the early 21st century and I'm interested in your opinion:
  • Is working with the 'Law of Attraction' and 'manifesting through thought vibration' magic?
  • If so, even if this is introduced in a setting without ceremonial ritual? Think about at the beginning or end of a yoga class...

Love to hear your thoughts!

Blessings,

i view manifestation as passive compared to magic
I feel like I have to agree with this. Most types of conversations about manifestation just boil down to the belief that if you want or believe something hard enough, it will come to you. I like to think of it more as mildly spicy psychology, while spells and ritual work usually require more active participation.

G.D. magician and generally cool dude Farrell, and a lot of magicians, hate the Law of Attraction.

Hell, I hate Law of Attraction, but found Neville's Law of Assumption work great, but I did whole bunch of growing before it could work.

I sucked at Chaos magic sigils - and for many years pretty much sucked at everything magical except for evocation of daimons and brujera (my hougan called me a 'materializing medium' which confused me originally.)

I was so terrible at chaos magic sigils that tried for years to get to work and got nothing that wasn't above mere chance. It was depressing. I was a normie magically. Gawain 'Creative Visualization' - all of it. I was just a shitty magician who could only call in the daimonic calvary to help. But over time that all chaged. I grew into a more integrated person through Western magic, the daimons teaching and changing me, and Catholic theosis. So many yeas later when I leanred about Neville it all clicked all in an instant and it worked! Still does, shocking me all the time.

But that personal integration and growing, the HGA, etc, - the specific path I assume is pretty flexible, and can happen without much of the of esoteric language and symbolic systems - how much of that is actually required here up front, when one is very young and starting out.

Why some magicans hate it makes me wonder why? I keep hearing it. Like the Kybalion (ugh) s all this is. I get the dumbed down langagage isterrible, but also WTF?
I love how you shared your journey, MorganBlack. It's so refreshing to hear someone talk about the 'ugly' learning phase without trying to dress it up in fancy terminology. We all start somewhere, and realizing that the tools (whether you call it Neville, chaos magic, or something else) are ultimately about integrating yourself is such a huge breakthrough. It’s definitely a long road, but it sounds like you found a path that actually works for your life. Thanks for being so real about it!

In my practice. Manifestation is not a seed, it is acquiring something for nothing. I don't believe putting in the energy (vibes) qualifies as enough for expecting a physical return. Instead I work with seed magic, where if I want something, I contribute to it, routinely (daily) and be part of the growth. I then ask the Gods to part-take in the magic, and add a little ooommphh to the change. This method has brought me far more success. I would rather something have a 5x boost to my effort than wait hopelessly for a miracle. I am reminded of the Magician who wants to win the lottery without buying a ticket joke. I have also found that with daily prayers, magical boosts to activities normally only take about 2-5 days to kick in.

There is a fine line between Magnetism and Manifestation. The writers on magnetism seem to sit better with me. My personal thoughts on the new age manifestation, is that its nothing more than vampirism. Expecting everything for nothing. Obviously I am not a fan.
