Not a catalogue of spirits, but the theory beneath them: a 17th-century English treatise on how magic is supposed to work. It deals with the orders and hierarchies of spirits, the soul and the spirit, the anima mundi, and the chain of correspondences through which the operator is meant to reach what is above and below. In that sense, it serves as the "opened gate" that frames the practical grimoires
