Has anyone taken a look at the books that have come out from John Friend Publishing? There's an 8 volume of Al-Buni, and then 7 other arabic esoteric texts. I was very excited about these. However, as I go through, I'm finding a lot of problems.
I specifically checked sections on Astrology, which I know well, and has some standard things in that tradition that you can compare with.
Al-Buni Vol. 8 p. 17-18 gives a brief overview of the Planets. In this section is lists the exaltations degrees of the Planets. Of the seven, 2 are correct, 4 are backwards, and 1 has a major error.
A lot can go wrong with an old text. There can be errors in the original text, scribal errors, manuscript errors, and translation errors. However, with the number of books this publisher has put out this year under a single author, it's looking more like it might be AI errors.
There is a translation of Vol. 4 from Revelore that I already own, so I might take some time to compare the two editions later.
There have been a number of AI translations of esoteric texts which were obviously bootleg. I think we might be getting to the point where people are putting a lot of production values into the editions and connected website and advertising, but are just using that to sell AI translations.
I just wanted to report what I was seeing, and see what everyone else was thinking. I'd say also be careful, because even if not AI errors, I've caught enough issues in the text in the parts I know, that I would probably be uncomfortable doing much with the parts I don't know. Quite a shame, I was very excited about these.
