The Black Pullet (La Poule Noire, "the black hen"): the grimoire of magical talismans and rings. Framed as a tale, a Napoleonic officer in Egypt, sole survivor of a Bedouin attack, is saved by an old man among the pyramids who reveals to him a science that escaped the burning of the Library of Alexandria. It teaches how to make and command a series of talismans and their rings, and the secret of the black hen that yields gold.
Transcribed from scratch from the French of the Le Bailly edition (Paris, 19th c.; it bears the traditional false "1740" imprint), public domain (Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève). This scan keeps the ORIGINAL engraved talisman plates, most modern editions redraw them and lose the fine detail of the magical characters. Each page's facsimile is presented beside my transcription of the period French and an English translation, with [?] on uncertain readings. CC-BY 4.0.
Note: this is the standalone Black Pullet grimoire, a different work from the short "Secret de la Poule Noire" recipe found inside the Grand Grimoire / Dragon Rouge, though the two are often confused.
