Large human shaped cat like shadow

Some sort of shadow creature lept up in front of my car tonight like a deer or something. It was very obviously not physically there because I didnt hit anything and it seemed to disappear into nothing. My brother was with me and he saw the thing as well, so I can rule out hallucinations.
Does anyone know much about human sized shadows that move like cats on all fours? This one darted out in front of my car, i was thinking of "black cats crossing your path" seems like a bad omen. This happened in central ca if it helps at all.
