Lights Along the Way: Timeless Lessons for Today from Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto's Mesillas Yesharim explained in commentary by Rabbi Dr Abraham Twerski M.D.

this book is a commentary on the book Mesillas Yesharim, meaning the Path of the Just, it is then explained by the late Rabbi Dr Abraham Twerski M.D.

the Ramchal , Moshe Chaim Luzzatto was a prodigy In his day but very controversial, many in the orthodox community in his day (he was born in 1707) feared men who claimed to speak to spirits due to an earlier debacle with a false messiah known as Sabbatai Zevi who let many Jews to concert to Islam.

The Ramchal claimed that he had a Maggid (spirit guide) Teaching him, his works were banned from being released and he had to leave to Amsterdam where the community was more open or else he’d be excommunicated.

the book is a step by step guide to being righteous, to seek to fulfill ones obligations to God and others, the wonder Rabbi Dr Twerski explains the work for modern times in a very common sense way

for example... one is obligated to give to charity but only so much giving so much that it brings them to poverty is foolish.

the Ramchal believed training oneself in this manner could lead to one receiving Ruach Hakodesh.
