This interdisciplinary study investigates the divine personas in the so-called magical hymns of the Greek magical papyri which, in a corpus usually seen as a significant expression of religious syncretism with strong Egyptian influence, were long considered to be the 'most authentically Greek' contribution. Fifteen hymns receive a line-by-line commentary focusing on religious concepts, ritual practice, language and style. The overarching aim is to categorise the nature of divinity according to its Greek or Egyptian elements, examining earlier Greek and Egyptian sources and religious-magical traditions in order to find textual or conceptual parallels. Are the gods of the magical hymns Greek or Egyptian in nature? Did the magical hymns originate in a Greek or Egyptian cultural background? The book tries to answer these questions and to shed light on the religious plurality and/or fusion of the two cultures in the treatment of divinity in the Greek magical papyri.

Broken-record note (I'm getting tired so of this shit) for all who haven't yet discovered all the free book ressources available on the net: Mega.nz has decided to terminate my account due to copyright complaints again - the last time +16 GB of books were lost, this time it's 19 GB, and I'm not sure if I want to go to all that reuploading hassle yet again, either on mega or an alternative hoster, only to see my book stash posted here go down the drain again. The book sharing issue is already being discussed among both forum staff and members but in the meantime I'd like to ask you to download this book from annas-archive.org or welib.org.
There are 2 copies of the book available on Anna's just waiting for you, so why don't you help yourselves?
Download a zip file with my entire book stash here:

Collection - HoldAll Mega Collection (2025-07-14)
It's 31.06 GB large and contains every single book, paper, treatise, etc. I've ever posted here until my second mega.nz account got trashed on July 14, 2025, so you'll hopefully understand now why I'm so loathe to fulfill each and every reupload request, not least because most of the stuff is...

Thank you for your understanding.
