I’m looking to connect with people who actually practice Western magickal systems. I’m mostly into CM, grimoires, greek/egyptian magick, and more structured astral/visionary work.
Some background on how I got here:
A few years back, during a rough time in my life, I came across a magician’s blog. He wrote a lot about Western magic, Kabbalah, the PGM, and some ATR stuff. On impulse I messaged him on Facebook. I didn’t expect a reply, but he got back to me. Turned out we lived in the same general area (Los Angeles).
He invited me to his place, which was this unbelievable forested property up in the hills. He did a shell reading for me in a shed on his land, in front of an nganga and a human skull. I wish he let me take pictures, it was such a cool setup - the shed was full of bottles, magical tools and herbs and the spirit pot was creepy AF but I couldn't take my eyes off of it, it just drew you in. I went back a few days later for a spiritual cleansing. What I experienced there was unlike anything before or since, enough to convince me magic is absolutely real in a literal sense, not “symbolic” or whatever. And the work he did actually resolved the situation I was dealing with.
He told me I might have a path in this kind of work if I wanted it, but when I asked if he’d teach me, he said No. Not because of me, but because he and his wife had just had their first kid and he didn’t think he’d be a good teacher while focusing on his family. We remained in informal contact for some time discussing mainly grimoires and western magic as that was the path I was on and he was so knowledgable on the subjects. Then around 2022 he basically disappeared - had another baby, sold the property to move to an even nicer area and dropped off the radar.
Since then I’ve been practicing on my own with mixed results and I’m at a point where having a community or some guidance would help. I’m not looking for a guru or someone to hold my hand, just real conversations or mentorship from people who actually do this work.
So that brings me here, hoping to connect and explore.
