[Tutorial] Mala [prayer beads] Divination

Informative post.
This is true oldschool divination in that you are asking for a specific overseeing entity whether your proposed action has the winds of luck/deity behind it.
So you might ask Jupiter about a business decision. This is Tibetan but I've used it with an archangel so shrug. Choose your own comfort level with culture mish-mashing, or DIY some prayer beads with a number appropriate to the tradition (I guess 72 would be good for angels).

  1. Invoke by doing one round of japa (108 repetitions) of a deity name or mantra, kabbalistic divine name, you get the idea.
  2. Ask your Yes/No questions
  3. Grab two random beads anywhere on the mala.
  4. You are working with the length that does NOT contain the guru bead. Hold it up in front of you.
  5. Count the beads off by threes, towards the centre. (You don't have to keep count). So move your left hand three beads in, then your right hand three beads in, etc.
  6. Keep going till you have 3 or fewer beads remaining.
  7. That's your answer, 1 bead, two beads or 3 beads:
    1. Falcon = Go ahead, circumstances are favourable, the spirit you called on blesses this course of action.
    2. Raven = Does not approve, will not help, expect obstacles
    3. Snow Lion = You have the go-ahead, but support will be weak. Results will be slow.
  8. That's it. If you want to find out more about the trad technique, google "falcon raven snow lion", it'll come up. The occultist who I originally got this from says you can reassign the images to something more appropriate to your practices, or different answers assigned to 1-2-3, so long as you keep consistent. You also might want to begin with a quick intro prayer (I guess that's the GD "invoke the highest first" principle). Going ahead with an action even though you got Raven doesn't mean you're doing anything terrible and blasphemous and will be cursed by the entity, it just means you'll be fighting an uphill battle.

Interesting. I'm going to try a variation: cutting a deck of cards then counting down the left-handed half by three's. (For LHP. RHP-ers can go with the right hand. ) A certain strain of Evangelical calls cards, "The Devil's Prayerbook." Let's see if one can wring some daimon's answers from a deck.

Huh never occurred to me before. but you could absolutely use a deck of cards as a mantra-counter for rounds of 52, by dealing them out to yourself. Add the two jokers and you've got 54: half 108.

Interesting. That’s how I get my marks for geomancy readings with my psalter beads (150 beads).

I pray, meditate, ask the question, choose two beads and move my hands toward each other till I have either 1 or 2 beads (odd vs even mark) remaining.

In a pinch I used to do it in a similar fashion to get quick yes/no responses.
