I am sorry but I am VERY experienced in many fields of * and practice in various martial arts .... and your comments come off as someone that has not done that at all .
here is the ting with 'us guys' ; '' the proof is on the floor '' .... come on ... zap me with your ki then
or as I said to some inexpreinced claimant ; '' THis guy I trained with ... he could come here , fight you and put you on your arse from a distance without touching you .''
'' Good'', I said . '' Bring him here and we can fight ; he can do his no touch BS and I will go for his nuts kneecaps throat and eyes .''
he has not turned up yet
Hre is another one ; some members of the aikido club went to this mixed demo . It had a 'sword master; there , who dressed up and waved a sword around in the air and then claimed he had defelctive ki powers and it was impossible to hit him with a sword . He offered to demo , hands the ( wooden ) sword to someone and sits there and 'meditates '. The guy comes forward to hit him . but stops , puts the sword down and walks away . Anoither tries , walks up to him aims , does some little movements to and away from him with the sword , but then puts it down and walks away . The thrird walks up to him swings the sword at his head , but slows it down and lightly 'bonks' him with it . They all laugh .
Some of our members went up to those guys and aske dthem what was going on for them ; 1st ... I was gonna whack him, but silly old guy, I jusy couldnt do it . 2 was similar , 3 similar but decided to bonk him lightly to show that he could do it . So then they talked to 'sword master' asking him why the 3rd guy was abe to hit him , although lightly , response ? '' Well ... it doesnt work with everyone .''
It seems 'sword master' was relying on people's good nature ! A risky tac... any day some nasty badarse could turn up and ... under invitation .. crack the guys skull ! Also I highly not recommend this as a self defense tactic !
The proof is indeed on the floor: It's in my own psyrurgy with people I worked with. I didn't come here to prove anything (your challenge is noted, somebody else will answer it), I am simply dissapointed with HoldAll's approach - so many styles and thoughts which serve only his ego at others expense, and you aren't better. Self-satisfied people like you two are the main reason I don't go to WF anymore, the environment is wrong. This journal, I thought it will be a sincere exploration, but really it's like a can of jam with a spoon of sh*t mixed in - looks like a treat, but it's all sh*t now. That's what his treatment of a genuine other member(s) proved on this floor, documented for all to see, I don't need to do any more. And seriously - writing about how martial arts don't have any subtle quality, on a wizard forum? This is almost as funny as that guy who wanted to convert everyone into worshiping Allah. So, go ahead, knock yourself out, I'm out of here this smug boys' club, since it's "no qi allowed"
Aha ! The dreaded 'standard comp rules' and all that .... I see ... thanks .
It happened to a few things ; Sikiran changed immensely from a Filipino indigenous foot fighting art (awesome ) to, for some reason , turning into karate to get JKA approval ( by the time I took it up ) and enter comps where it became unawesome competition karate with a lot of unusual kicks . ... whose guys often got disqualified in comp for not doing things 'the right way ' or illegal techniques within those rules .
It also explains why, after years of 'playing' (not comp rules ) I would often notice that when I closed in on some (inside their 'range' ) they seem to be overwhelmed . A lot of the techniques I learned and the kata bunkai were at close quarters , but I notice others treat them as some type of long range bunkai . Mine was okinawan based as well, and old school , so still had that 'Okinawan wrestling' aspect in it .

Sikaran, I love it! Looks more effective than TKD, and the guys in those youtube videos have real heart and fighting spirit. Tremendous kime, these guys don't pussyfoot around! The JKA is the keeper of the holy grail of shotokan karate, I'm surprised they even bothered with another martial art. Some martial artist don't like their opponent get close, I noticed that with TKD guys and with karatekas much taller than me - all you have to do is cover up your head (since they're not used to punching and kicking at such a low chudan height), get inside their range and watch them suddenly become nervous.
Karate point-fighting rules are admittedly very narrow. Every technique must have a definite end-point and retracted along the same trajectory, which is why crescent and wheel kicks are out, and the same goes for hooks, spinning elbows, ax kicks, etc. Besides, the main emphasis is on speed, not power, so in a way, point-fighting is indeed like playing tag. Additionally, to much protective equipment is worn these days, the most recent additions being the foot protectors and body protectors. Too much protective equipment makes you incautious and feel too safe when it's unwarranted.
I'm not against qi as such. It's just that I think it's be a subtle force exploited by Chinese Traditional Medicine and not some superpower out of the Marvel Universe. Tai Chi and qigong are called 'internal martial arts' because they're, well, internal. They may be capable of regulating and redirecting qi flow inside the body but not of knocking an external enemy out - that's not their purpose. And why are such outrageous claims always made it in the martial arts and not in, say, pole vaulting or powerlifting?
