Hey Guys,

there are a lot of Systems out there. Some claim that you should never mix those some have a different approach.

What’s you take on that?
Do you combine different Systems? And if so which one are your favorite to mix?

Chaos magick is very much a 'choose your own adventure' form of magick.
Study systems, give them a try, find what works for you, then take all those pieces and build your own system with them.

I enjoy Chaos magick because there ARE a lot of systems out there, being able to bounce around and experience all of them really helps you to build core skills in performing magick of all kinds. Why stay seated when you can stand? Why not explore? Why not travel the world?

Personally I use some ceremonial magick, some runic/norse magick, some animist shamanism, and of course some sigil magick in my practice. Along with various divination and meditation techniques to suplement them.
Magick is what you make it and it's all there for the taking.

I also blend different systems together; my needs vary and sometimes a simple folk spell with candle and the Psalms might do the trick, other times full ritual magick suits the bill. Think of the Art like Fine Art, or Music, or any sort of creative form of expression. You can imitate established masters' styles and methods, but the only way to really give true voice to your soul, to your essence, to meet your needs absolutely is by developing your own methods. And if that means mixing different trads and systems, hey, if it works for you, that is all that matters, the bottom line is results. But that is me : )

Personally I think it’s good to study systems and learn from them but I think one should have an overarching framework to guide their practice unlike fighting different systems have different goals and it’s important to know yours and keep focus on it

I'm a fan of an eclectic practice, though I think there's a lot of benefit to knowing the structure of the practice and methods from which each thing you pick up originates, and having a structure and discipline of one's own. Trial and error works for everything from finding a recipe for scones you like, to soul retrieval.

I do respect people that stay entirely within a single system, though, I think overly rigid structures might end up benefiting gatekeeping and inter-personal things as often as they get results. Similar to how in broad strokes, many religions have something good going at their core. Usually. But little nit-picking nuance isn't about the religion when it's debate over why the god of Abraham will send you to hell or not based on how you genuflect. That's more about social pressure to keep people in line.

Is not that you shouldn't mix systems, you can do whatever works best for you. If you are trained in a system and you need to incorporate others you should know by experience what you are bringing into the mix and not just for shit and giggles. Even "traditionalists" incorporate their own blends to their magic, so you just need to be coherent on your own practice.

Respecting your limits, not overdoing it, is the most important part. It's fine to practice two or more different systems as long as you keep each one in its own place, knowing that each has its own space, method, and time when you're working within it. This isn't the same as mixing them. You can do lodge work, full ceremonial/ritual magic, and be initiated into Santería, for example; that doesn't mean you're going to call an orisha inside your triangle, or show up at the ilé ocha in your robe.
