What exactly is Mount Abiagnus, where is it, what is the symbolism throughout the grades in terms of the mountain, and how does one conquer it?

Ah yes, the mystic and mighty mountain of Abiagnus, you will find mention of it in the 5=6 Adeptus Minor ritual of the GD which you can find in Regardi's "Complete Golden Dawn". The R.R. et A.C., the inner order of what today is collectively called the GD. is based in Rosicrucianism. The Mount in question is a cosmological construct found in Rosicrucianism. It is, their world axis and its symbolism is alchemic while also alluding to rising on the planes/heavens. once you become 5=6 in the original Golden System you have glimpsed Yetzirah and going further, are no longer working the tree in Assiah but Yetzirah. This means that now you have gone into the higher world of the celestials, the seven heavens beyond their representation in the physical. Now you would begin journey work, astral projection etc.. and to go out one first must go within. The cave opening in the mountain alludes to nigredo 'the dark night of the soul' whereby you find your ore, particularly Gold, which shall bring to light some aspect of the psyuche of Adam Kadmon 'The Cosmic Man'. See: Lurianic integration theory and in particular how it influenced Rosicrucianism. You might also wany to check out this same concept in Martinism. You find the nuggets in the darkness and this allows you to go higher into the heavens. From a Jungian perspective we can think of this as breaking down coping mechanisms and other psychological barriers which inhibit us from witnessing certain parts of our inner dimension which resonate with the outward macrocosmic which we aim to travel to. That is perhaps the easiest way to put it.

As for the vault, it is to expose one to the full concourse of planetary forces... that this might be imprinted upon them, awakening and stirring up their vintage, and those planetary currents within which they shall seek to invoke and travel by in the inner order. As for Rosenkreutz, well..aside from some hero worship of glorias founder, think of the mountain also as a burial mound and the importance of roots towards higher aspirations.
