New Occult Movies

This is to be a mirror of the "Oldie Occult Movies", because while the cults have their value and are amazing, we also have some interesting new movies coming around, and for that purpose I wanted to make this htread to talk about the new ones exactly to avoid going beyond the actual subject on the other thread, as well as giving a place to gather new movies that might be interesting to you and others.

"New" starts in what year? Say within the last decade?

There's Xing Lin Yiyuan, "Hospital" made in China (or Taiwan---let's not get into that.) The story is pretty uneven. Set in an abandoned hospital, it features some good scare scenes in a vacuum of logic.

I've recently seen "I Saw the TV Glow" and the Gnostic symbolism in it was so potent it actually made me feel very ill. Demons and esoteric psychic nonsense galore. It's quite good, and loud. Be warned, it's intense, and from this year, 2024

Yeah, this one was unexpectedly excellent. Not big on the "haunting/exorcism" subgenre, more of a gore guy usually, but A Dark Song was capitvating.

This movie is one of the best I've seen in the field of the occult.But it is interesting and at the same time questionable how many people managed to perform this Abramelin ritual in addition to Aliester Crowley, even though he didn't quite succeed either.

That one in-bar band that played in the movie was extremely twin-peaks-esque. Given your affiliation with the series, I think you'd be a good judge of that.

Haha absolutely, the director said their favorite show of all time is Twin Peaks. The bar scene is an unmistakable nod to the Roadhouse.

Is that the Pink Opaque by the Cocteau Twins?

I was referring specifically to the soundtrack of the film, but I am a fan of them.

I feel that The Substance has a lot of occult messaging behind it, especially the ending. I recognized a lot of Alchemical allegories, references to the life of a Witch, a meaningful use of the word "Matrix", talented directing, and thoughtful metaphors that apply to the mundane world of the superficial. This movie really locks in the power & evil of the Hyperreal.

The movie is also violent and extremely pornographic, 10/10.
