On the Discord we have very simple rule for any altar - it has to be your sacred space. Whatever you put there is secondary.

A single candle can make an altar. If it is your sacred space. Some Norse altar were very simple. Model of tree and two feathers nade very simple yet beautiful altar to Odinn.
Also a lot of younger ones practice in secret so they have altar staff ins hue box or other sekret place.

Norse altars are preferably outside. Good if you can find a rock that can serve you as an altar.

I keep mine altar simple. First something to represent the Norse god. And then fill it with what suits the god. Is he/she traveling with animals, what are the qualities, what makes it happy. Room for an offering, also depending on the god, and with respect for nature.
(If the altar is outside in nature I only offer things good for nature and the animals, be careful with fire etc).

But basically, just what Morell is saying above; if it feels good, it is.
Bond with the god by sitting at your altar and read about him/her. Learn to know him/her, and then you'll know what to do.
